Fate pulls the strings. Fate controls the cosmic destiny of one and all. That is what Clyde Sutter believes, anyway, and perhaps that is why he is not all that terribly bothered with what happened at Under Attack? Fate had led himself, Melinda Braddock, and Alex Belmont to the Trios Tournament Finals only to come up just short against James Evans, The Monster Machine, and Gina Glimmer. Sutter always preaches that the will of Fate should be respected. Sutter would be quite the hypocrite if he were to go against his own philosophy. So no, Clyde is not bothered in the least by the unfortunate events of Under Attack. Does losing sting? Of course it does. Still, Sutter knows that Fate has big plans for himself and his future bride Melinda Braddock. He knows that as long as he serves Fate, everything will work out for him in the end. He just has to trust in Fate and press forward with what comes next. What comes next in the long term future is anyone’s guess but in the immediate future The Assassin knows that he will be taking on Oskar Theron of the European Fiery Nation, Dante Slayton of the Shinigami Foundation, and Gavin Taylor in a four way match. A victory here could be just the thing to put Sutter, the Vision by association, back on the right track and that might just be what Fate has planned for him. Time will tell. Regardless, Sutter is not concerned with what Fate has planned for his wrestling career.

What does concern The Assassin is the emergence of his sister, Lilith Sutter, back onto the scene. Clyde had believed that Lilith was gone. Lilith Sutter fled to Russia when evidence of her involvement in the shooting death of one Archie Van Stanton, Melinda’s former boyfriend, came to light. He had believed that Lilith was gone for good. He believed that his sister would never again dare step out into the reach of the authorities, that she would stay in Russia, where she felt safe. Fate was not smiling upon Clyde. As Fate would have it, Lilith paid off Clyde’s closest childhood friend, a punk named Joey, to help clear her name, allowing her the freedom to safely return to her own wealthy criminal empire. Now with his sister back and reconnected to her vast resources, Clyde knows that she will continue her ruthless, near obsessive pursuit of trying to force him to join her. Despite his constant rejection and refusal, Lilith will not back down. She will not take no for an answer. She wants her brother with her for reasons that still, to this day, make no sense to The Assassin. They never even knew the other existed until a little over a year ago. When Clyde learned of her involvement in organized crime he knew that a reunion with a sister he never even knew would be bad news. He wants to put his dark past to bed once and for all but Lilith seems intent on bringing it back.

The Assassin is doing his best to keep his sister and her looming threat in the back of his mind but still far enough away so that he can enjoy this time with those closest to him; namely his fiance Melinda Braddock and her adopted sister Fiona Logan. The backstage area of the ExtraMile Arena hummed with its usual organized chaos, stagehands rolling production cases across smooth concrete floors, camera operators weaving between clusters of wrestlers and other employees, and the constant background murmur of voices layered over the distant roar of the Boise crowd watching the live show. Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, their cold brightness bouncing off exposed pipes and steel trusses above. Clyde Sutter walked at a steady pace, one hand tucked into the pocket of his jeans, his broad shoulders unconsciously parting the foot traffic ahead of him. He was not scheduled to compete this evening and thus was wearing his street clothes, yet he still looked as intimidating as ever. He wore a simple dark t-shirt stretched comfortably across his chest, black jeans, and boots heavy enough that each step echoed slightly off the concrete. His fiancee, the self-proclaimed “Third Generation Goddess”, Melinda Braddock stayed close to his side, not clinging, just naturally aligned with him as if gravitating toward his space. She was dressed far differently than either of them, her attire refined enough to make her stand out immediately against the sea of hoodies, sweats, and production polos that filled the hallway. Her fitted skirt, soft pastel blouse, and matching heels gave her an air of elegance, like she had just stepped out of a photoshoot instead of one of wrestling’s most chaotic backstage corridors. Her blonde hair was styled, the soft curls framing her face immaculate despite the whirlwind environment. She walked with effortless confidence, but every now and then her hand brushed Clyde’s arm or she shifted slightly to avoid someone barreling past with a lighting rig.

And then there was the third member of this group; “The Boston Badass" Fiona Logan trailing just a step behind them, dark hair pulled into a loose ponytail and dressed in her usual off days attire which included faded jeans, an old black t-shirt, and a black zip-up jacket that had clearly seen its fair share of road trips. She blended in far more naturally with the backstage environment than Melinda ever could, moving with a casual familiarity, boots thudding lightly as she stepped around cables taped to the floor. SCW Breakdown was already in full swing, and the narrow hallway pulsed with the energy of live television. The muffled roar of the Boise audience surged in waves. The three had no reason to rush. They weren’t scheduled for anything tonight. They moved deeper into the backstage labyrinth, walking past open locker room doors, catering tables stacked with half-eaten plates. They finally reached a quieter stretch of hallway, away from the busiest intersections of traffic. Here, the noise of the crowd was still audible but softened, like a storm heard from behind thick walls. A few folding chairs lined the wall. The lighting here was dimmer, warmer, less clinical. Melinda’s steps slowed naturally. Clyde noticed without needing to look back. Fiona stopped beside them, her posture loosening just slightly now that they were away from the crush of bodies moving in every direction.

“You know what doesn’t make sense about any of this?” Fiona asks, breaking the silence among the trio. Melinda turns to look at her sister and arches a brow out of curiosity.

“What?”

“We’re here. We don’t technically even have to be here yet here we are. And we’re not even doing a damn thing” The frustration is quite clear in Fiona’s voice. “I haven’t had any action since you and I beat up on Hollywood, Mels. Speaking of which, while its great that we are unbeaten as a tag team, that streak had better continue because you and the big guy there came up short at Under Attack.”

“Yes, don’t remind me.” Melinda sighs. “Still, you must trust the process, Fiona. You and I hold two sets of tag team championships currently. It won’t be long until we add the SCW titles to that list.”

“Lemme guess…Fate, right?” Fiona rolls her eyes and sarcasm drips from her voice. Clyde nods his head.

“Yes, Fiona. Fate. It was not on our side at Under Attack but Fate will present us with opportunities as long as we are clear minded, focused, and our eyes are opened.”

“Why couldn’t Fate give us something interesting to do tonight, huh?” Fiona whines. “I’m bored. I need something to do, someone’s ass to kick.”

“Just trust in Fate, dear Fiona.” Clyde says soothingly. “You and my beloved have impressed SCW. Your opportunities will come, just as mine comes next week.”

“Yeah, you get some action next week against three losers. Me and Mels are still playing cheerleaders. Honestly, big guy, if I’m not busy doing something I don’t wanna show up!”

“I know it is frustrating,” Melinda begins, placing a hand on Fiona’s shoulder “but showing up to work even when you are not scheduled to compete is a good look. Management respects it. And sometimes you need to make a good impression.”

“You sound like your mom.” Fiona smirks.

“I admit, I lifted that piece of advice from my mother, but while she may be annoying and wrong about a lot of things, she is not wrong about that.” Melinda states. She then turns her attention to Clyde. “And you, Clyde, should focus on next week.”

“Focus I shall.” Sutter nods his head. “Fate’s will be done, but I am coming off of a disappointment from Under Attack. I need to ‘rebound’ as they say. Defeating three individuals the caliber of Theron, Slayton, and Taylor will no doubt get myself, and you two by extension, back on track. Plus it will provide a good distraction, something to keep my mind off of my personal dilemmas.”

“You mean your sister.” Melinda states. Clyde nods his head.

“Indeed.”

Any mention of his sister is enough to rattle The Assassin and Clyde Sutter has done quite a good job at keeping his cool lately. Yet Lilith Sutter has managed to get under his skin and drive him to fits of rage, rage that he hasn’t experienced in years. The topic of his sister is a touchy subject for The Assassin, yet it is one he knows he cannot continue to ignore.

“Do we know where she is now?” Melinda asks. “Is she here in the states?”

“Likely in Europe.” Clyde remarks. “She prefers it there. Her estate is there. The majority of her operation is there. If I had to guess, she is in London, there or Birmingham.”

“Well, wherever she is, she’s been a busy little bitch.” Fiona quips. “Hasn’t she already gotten rid of Mason?”

“Yes, maybe a week or two back with her vast criminal connections and she has already managed to ruin Mason Van Stanton’s career by taking his managerial agency away from him.” Clyde smirks knowingly. “Honestly? It serves him right.”

“Clyde!” Melinda exclaims, shocked to hear Sutter say that.

“Recall how Mason manipulated your own family, Melinda. Recall how he manipulated me. He then made the fatal mistake of trusting Lilith, striking up a bargain with that devil just to get his floundering business back up and running.” Clyde snarls. “He is out of a job. He is powerless. He is nothing all thanks to the woman he trusted. Like I said, it serves him right, and it is proper justice considering what he has done to both of us.”

“He isn’t completely out of a job.” Melinda states. “Mason does wrestle part time.”

“Yes but you know him as well as I do. Mason, as does most Van Stantons, enjoy that lavish lifestyle of luxury. He will need to do more than wrestle part time to maintain the lifestyle he prefers.” Sutter smirks. “It will be torture for him until he learns to live like the common man.”

“She brought Van Stanton down.” Fiona remarks. “Make you wonder, what might she do next?”

“You are asking the wrong question, dear Fiona.” Clyde remarks. “You see, the next move has already been made.”

“What?!” Fiona and Melinda state in unison. Clyde nods his head.

“You recall my…former…friend, Joey?”

“Yes, the traitor.” Melinda answers.

“He was conveniently arrested a few days ago on numerous charges including breaking and entering, possession and dealing of drugs, and assault.”

“All of that?” Fiona seems surprised. Melinda just seems skeptical.

“Are these charges legitimate? And by that I mean, did he actually commit the crimes they arrested him for?”

“Oh yes, he most certainly did.” Sutter again grins from ear to ear. “Remember, my love, Joey was brought up the same way I was; living on the streets, fighting to survive. Both of us were criminals. The difference is that I made something of myself and escaped that life. He never did.”

“I guess your sister knew all about it and had the evidence against him.” Fiona states. Clyde nods his head.

“Yes, and like Mason earlier, it is Joey’s own fault for trusting my sister. He got himself into this mess and he is now paying the price.”

“But Clyde, he’s your friend.” Melinda says, wrapping her arms around Clyde in a warm embrace.

“He WAS my friend. The friendship ended when he betrayed me.”

“So let me get this straight…” Fiona begins “...Mason Van Stanton and your old pal Joey. Two guys you have a beef with because they were working with your sister. Now she’s just screwed over her own business partners?” Fiona shrugs her shoulders. “What is her game? Y’know? What is she trying to do?”

“I believe my sister is trying to get on my good side.” Clyde remarks. “She knew how angry I was with both of them. Conveniently both have now fallen from grace. Both are now suffering and she knew I would enjoy every minute of their suffering.”

“So she’s just trying to win you over?” Melinda asks. He nods his head.

“Yes, and there’s more. I recently received an invitation to meet with my sister.”

“Of course you did.” Melinda rolls her eyes.

“This time is different.” He answers. “This time she made it a point to invite you as well.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“I don’t know, big guy.” Fiona shakes her head. “This screams ‘set up’ to me.”

“Me too.” Melinda says quietly.

“I have reservations of my own but my sister did make it a point to invite you. She also specified that we should meet in a public setting, such as a restaurant, to guarantee our safety. She would not be able to do anything to us with so many people around.”

“Sure, that’s true, but Clyde, tell me…” Melinda gazes deep into his eyes “...do you really want to see her? Do you really think seeing your sister and opening up that can of worms is a good idea?”

“She will not leave me alone, otherwise.” Sutter answers. “Besides, if nothing else, I might learn what she plans to do next.”

“I still don’t like this, Clyde.” Melinda’s voice is shaky, concern is there in her voice and all across her face. Sutter kisses her on the lips, lovingly. He looks deep into her eyes and smiles.

“Sometimes we must do what we do not wish to do. Fate will oftentimes put us into situations that hurt, scenarios that are dangerous. We must face these situations head on, with courage. That is the will of Fate.”

“Fate again.” Fiona scoffs. “I just don’t get it.”

“You do not have to understand Fate, Fiona.” Clyde remarks. “But you MUST know that if I am to ever have any form of peace, I must tackle this problem. I must confront my sister.”

“Fiona gets it.” Melinda remarks. “And I get it too.” She sighs. “I just don’t like it.”

“Trust me, my love, we will get through it.” Sutter runs his hand through Melinda’s long blonde hair. “I wouldn’t let anything happen to you. You know this.”

“I know.” Melinda finally cracks a smile. “That’s why I love you.”

“And I, you.” He plants another kiss on her lips. Fiona feigns gagging.

“Get a room!”

A narrow alleyway stretches between two rows of aging brick buildings, their walls stained by time, rain, and the quiet neglect of a city that has long since shifted its attention elsewhere. The last light of dusk bleeds into the passage, casting a dim violet glow that barely reaches the ground. What illumination exists comes from a single flickering streetlamp at the alley’s entrance, its weak bulb stuttering between pale yellow and darkness, creating a jittery rhythm of shifting shadows. The uneven pavement below is cracked and damp, dotted with shallow puddles that reflect slivers of fading sky like broken pieces of glass. Trash bins line one side, overflowing with crumpled paper, cardboard, and the faint odor of something left too long in the heat, while a torn black plastic bag flutters weakly near the ground like a trapped creature. Somewhere deeper in the alley, out of sight, the faint sound of footsteps are heard, indicating the approach of someone, or more than one someone. The footsteps grow louder and then two shadowy figures emerge in the light; “The Assassin” Clyde Sutter and his lovely fiance “The Third Generation Goddess” Melinda Braddock.

Sutter is dressed in an all black ensemble that blends formality with an understated toughness. His outfit begins with a sleek black dress shirt buttoned all the way to the collar, complemented by a matte black tie that adds severity without overpowering the look. Over this he wears a fitted black blazer, sharply tailored through the shoulders and chest, giving him a commanding silhouette. His trousers match perfectly, slim-cut and modern, with a silver chain accessory draped at his hip; an accent that adds just enough personality to hint at an edgier persona beneath the otherwise formal attire. His posture is assertive but composed, one hand resting at his side while the other hooks casually into his pocket. He has a full beard trimmed neatly, enhancing a rugged, intense expression. His long black hair hangs straight, unrestrained, to past the shoulder, flowing loosely. He radiates an energy that is both elegant and imposing.

Standing beside him is Melinda Braddock dressed in a striking deep-blue velvet jumpsuit; rich, lustrous, and unmistakably glamorous. The fabric catches light in smooth gradients, emphasizing its softness and luxury. The jumpsuit features a dramatic halter neck design with a plunging, elongated keyhole cutout at the front that extends almost to her midsection, creating a bold yet sophisticated silhouette. The outfit fits her snugly at the torso and waist before draping into wide, floor length pant legs that flow smoothly to the ground, giving her an elegant, statuesque appearance. Her long blonde hair is styled sleek and straight, parted precisely and tucked neatly behind her shoulders so that nothing distracts from her face or the dramatic neckline of her outfit. Her posture is confident and poised, one hand resting lightly against her leg while the other remains relaxed at her side. She projects composure, glamour, and an effortless command of the camera.

“One should never panic or be shocked when faced with failure. Failure is inevitable because, as they say, no one is perfect. Therefore when you inevitably fail, when you come up short, panic is not the proper reaction if you hope to survive and thrive, especially in the ruthless and cutthroat world of professional wrestling. When met with the inevitable and grim persona of failure, you must first recognize that this is merely the will of Fate. Nothing more and nothing less. Where you go from that failure…whether that be a glorious rebound or further failures and a fall into a deeper, darker abyss…depends entirely upon how you play the hand that Fate has dealt you.” He chuckles and looks over at his lovely companion, Melinda, and kisses her. “I was not supposed to be here. If society had its way I would still be on the streets struggling to live another day. Yet I get to compete week in and week out in front of thousands of fans for championships, for glory, and for wealth beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. A man of my low countenance was most certainly not supposed to be engaged to marry the most gorgeous goddess walking the planet earth, yet here I am united arm in arm with my beloved Melinda Braddock.”

“The Harbinger of Fate has met failure on multiple occasions. He has stood his ground when met with the most serious of failures and yet he has not only survived he has thrived.” Melinda points a finger at the camera. “The real question here is how will YOU deal with your failures?”

“Yes, my love, that is indeed the real question. And you know, it is said that a true leader will not command his troops to do something he himself will not do as well. So allow me to inform my opposition…Oskar Theron, Dante Slayton, and Gavin Taylor…that I have already gazed deep into the mirror. Each and every time a match of mine is over, whether it ends in victory or defeat, I always look back into that mirror and do introspection. Under Attack did not go the way I had hoped. Fate was not on my side that night. Does it sting? Does it hurt? Of course. But do I accept the will of Fate?” The Assassin nods his head. “Yes, I always accept Fate’s will, for I am Fate’s ultimate weapon, and I trust in Fate to always provide new opportunities going forward.”

“I think going to war in a fatal four way against opponents the caliber of Theron, Slayton, and Taylor certainly sounds like an opportunity to me.” Melinda winks. “Especially if…no, no, WHEN you win!”

“Correct.” Sutter smirks knowingly. “Now what of my opposition? Can they say that they are prepared to accept the will of Fate? Are they prepared to accept their failures and move on? Between Mr. Raab’s spectacular failure in the chamber match at Under Attack and then the European Fiery Nation’s failure to put down Ms. Frost on Breakdown…”

“It was two on one and they couldn’t get the job done!” Melinda snickers nastily. Sutter sneers.

“...indeed. So tell me, Mr. Theron, how will YOU respond to the recent string of failures of the European Fiery Nation? You and your friends have been less than stellar as of late. You have not been the kind of threat you had hoped to be. This is the hand that Fate has dealt you but Fate has given you an opportunity. What exactly will you do with that opportunity, Mr. Theron? Ah but here I am asking the wrong question. How will you react to yet another failure, how will you respond to yet another setback handed to you by Fate because this four way on Breakdown is not an opportunity for victory…at least not for you…for you this will end in another failure. The real question is will you survive it? Will Fate let you walk away under your own power or will I put you down for good? You know, Mr. Theron, my beloved and I could have been good friends, allies even, with you and your companions. My beloved was born and raised in London. I grew up here in Birmingham. We are both European.”

“Except we’re not European enough, apparently.” Braddock says, playfully snickering.

“Too true, my love. Thus Fate has dealt the hand. We must be enemies and so shall it be. But then there is you, Mr. Slayton. Much like the European Nation, your Foundation has had a rough road, has it not? You struggled greatly to claim the SCW World Tag Team Championship from The Fall of Man…” he pauses and shakes his head. Melinda Braddock giggles.

“Only to lose them to a couple of adult circus clowns!”

“How the mighty have fallen.” Clyde responds. “The Foundation tried to reclaim the championships at the KABLAM event and you failed again. Now my beloved and I tried to hand your Foundation a Trios Contract on a silver platter, through Mr. Belmont, at Under Attack, unfortunately that venture was not in Fate’s plans. My beloved and I have accepted this and moved on yet I have a feeling that you will have greatly differing opinions on the matter. I understand. Not everyone can grasp, or accept, the will of Fate. So if we must be enemies now then so be it. Just know this, Mr. Slayton, you will not find an opportunity at my expense. I know full well what you and your Foundation ultimately want and it is the same thing my beloved’s Vision wants; the SCW World Tag Team Championship. What my beloved wants, my beloved gets, and I will walk through hell itself to make it a reality and I will destroy who stands in her way. You are a roadblock, Mr. Slayton, and I cannot allow you to remain. Fate has dealt you a very poor hand, Mr. Slayton, and you cannot do anything about it.”

“It was nice doing business with you.” Braddock smirks knowingly.

“Now that brings me to the loud mouth buffoon with fake contracts and delusions of grandeur. I could just as easily be talking about Gavin Taylor or a certain President. The thing about failure is that it affects people in different ways. As you can tell, my beloved and I have accepted the fallout of Under Attack and are moving on with whatever Fate has planned. Mr. Slayton and his foundation, no doubt, will continue their stubborn, rigorous quest for the tag team championship.”

“And the European Fiery Nation will do whatever it is that Fiery Europeans do!” Melinda says cheerfully yet with a hint of sarcasm.

“What about you, Mr. Taylor? You were once number one contender for the Adrenaline Championship once held by my future mother in law. How did that work out? You failed. You did manage to win a Trios Contract and you used it to get yourself a World Title Match. How did that work out? You failed. This past Rise To Greatness you tried to win the Scaffold Scramble to win that United States Title opportunity. How did that turn out? You failed. The pattern with you is the same; you take one step forward and two massive steps back. Your history is one of failure after failure after failure. Now while some just continue to fight on with pride and honor, and while still others just give up and quit, your reaction to constant failure is different.” He looks down at Melinda who is pointing to her head and making circles.

“He’s gone crazy!” She grins from ear to ear. “He lost his marbles!”

“Your reaction to the hand that Fate has dealt you, your reaction to your failure, is that you finally embrace complete and utter insanity. Make America Gavin Again? What sort of nonsense is this? You talk of a ridiculous nonexistent contract. Where is this contract, Mr. Taylor? And of all people to bring to your side as an ally you choose Religious Wright? All he does is kiss the ass of whoever he thinks will give him a good payday. Why, Mr. Taylor? Why would you, someone who even I admit is a very good wrestler with lots of credentials to his name, lower yourself to working with a nobody, a lowly ass kisser?”

“I think you just answered your own question, babe.” Melinda remarks. “But what I really want to know what kind of nicknames are you going to come up with for my man? It won’t rattle him. Your kind of nonsense doesn’t bother him. Still, it might be entertaining. So tell you what, let me help you out. Maybe go with Silly Sutter? Oh! Or what about Crazy Clyde? I like that one! Crazy Clyde! Because, Gavin, the difference between him and you, is that when you go crazy, you create a propaganda machine to make yourself look good. When Clyde goes crazy, he chokes the life out of you.”

“Your propaganda machine will not save you, Mr. Taylor.” The Assassin remarks, shaking his head. “And do not make the mistake of thinking that Fate has gifted you with an opportunity to Make America Gavin Again with this four way. Fate does not like you, Mr. Taylor. Fate is just as annoyed with you as everyone else is and Fate has put you in this situation so that I can do what I must…which is to silence you once and for all. This is not an opportunity for you, Mr. Taylor. This is an execution.” The Assassin smiles sadistically and pats himself on the chest. “But for me, this truly is an opportunity. Under Attack may have been a minor setback but this is an opportunity to make things right and put myself and The Vision back on track. All I have to do is wipe out four unworthy individuals.”

“Piece of cake!” Melinda exclaims.

“Fate has put us all in this four way. It will be a war, that much is certain. For me it is an opportunity to set things right and get The Vision back on track, that much is certain. The only question that remains is how will each of you respond to this next big failure in your respective careers? Trust me, failure is the only thing you should expect. Expecting anything else would only lead you to greater disappointment. It is your Fate, gentlemen, and your Fate is sealed.”
