Full update, schedule, state of SCW
#1
Hi all,

First, before I update you on everything, I wanted to thank people for their patience. SCW in 2023 has had its struggles and mostly because of me. I've got many, many irons in fires, and having a bout of COVID didn't help, and all of that has led to a repeat problem of late shows which leads to a changing schedule and just a lack of consistency. That's all on me.

I hope to change that. But first, I need to talk about the two immediate shows - Breakdown for March 10 and Retribution. First, Breakdown on March 10 - it will be a summarized show. I just finished reading roleplays moments ago. I hope to have the show up tomorrow morning between work I have to do. Retribution's full card will be posted shortly after. I will have a deadline sometime early next week to allow people plenty of time to roleplay.

This is where things, hopefully, will be for the better. I am going to a conference this week and I am taking the train. I'm hoping I can use that time to write a good chunk of Retribution and actually get ahead of things. I have to do some prep for the conference (and another talk I'm doing), but I'm hoping all of this will allow me to get Retribution up fairly quickly after deadline. I will then be getting to the end of my term and while I still am working on a book with a ridiculous deadline, not teaching five classes will be a great improvement on my time. That said, I am going to do everything I can to get the first Breakdown post-Retribution on time and set a tone. A tone I hope to keep up with through Rise to Greatness.

In the meantime, for those who have been around a while, you know we'll get back on track. For those new, please don't let me inconsistencies take away from the special things we can do here. And for everyone, please encourage other people to give us a shot. I'd love to keep injecting new blood as some of the new faces have both made the Discord have some more buzz, while also offering fresh characters and matchups on the shows.

As SCW reaches 20 years in operation, let's get back to doing what we do. You all have held up your end, even with your own challenges, by roleplaying and helping out. I need to get back to holding up my end by not only providing good shows, but getting them up on time.

This is why SCW always stays around! We don't run for the hills, we accept real life, and we are actually humans first, before the characters we portray! Be safe in travels Olek!

As someone who has also suffered from COVID in the past, you have my sympathies sir. Also, as someone who has had a hell of a last few months, anyone who criticises you will need to answer to me. I’d say I’d set the puppers on them, but they’re a tad young.  Big Grin

For those of you who don’t know, in December the team I was in at work basically went to hell. Three of our team were released out of nowhere, and nobody would give us a good reason as to why. That left me struggling to be one of those leading the team as Scrum Master, while also trying to find a way forward. Then, in January, my doggo died. Her name was Cookie. She was a miniature Dachshund I got in 2020, and the doggo I scheduled my whole life around. Jax, my 5 year old Patterdale, has always been good at being on his own, but Cookie I got during a year of lockdowns, she didn’t really socialise with many others, and she hated being left alone. She seemed fine right up until the Sunday (8th or 9th or whenever it was) when she threw up yellow bile a few times. I said I’d take her to the vet on Monday morning, and stayed awake all night that Sunday cuddling her since she couldn’t sleep. Vets opened at 8:30. She died at 8am, getting a cuddle from me. My brain basically stopped functioning for a while. I tried to write for the PPV, but as a few here know, I just couldn’t concentrate on anything.

In my grief I sought out adopting a new doggo. Found another miniature Dachshund puppy for adoption. Wanted to call her Oreo, but got convinced instead to go with Ororo, since Oreo “sounded too much like a boy”. Upon finding out her sister also wasn’t yet adopted, I did something exceptionally stupid and adopted them both. I named her sister Maya. They are both now 12 weeks old, and I’ve had them for the past 4 weeks of happiness and joy with tiny puppers. Anyone who wants photos, just let me know. They’re adorable.

I booked the week off to look after them, and during that week finally find out why 3 members of my team were abruptly terminated in December: the company I worked for was struggling financially. They let half of the developers go a few weeks ago, myself included. Thankfully I was only without a job for one week, as a week later I got offered a new role at another company, which is also technically a payrise from what I was on (albeit less than £1,000, but still). I start that role on the 20th, but fully intend to post for the PPV.

So yeah, it’s been a while few months. I was mid way through applying for a mortgage when I had to put it on hold due to being made redundant, but I now have an offer on the house I’m renting too thanks to my new boss providing the contract and promising me he’ll make sure I get my first payslip in March, rather than waiting until April, and am just waiting for the landlord to make a decision. So HOPEFULLY the worst start to a new year in my life is over now, and I have three doggos making my life more interesting, while I still miss my doggy daughter.

Anyone who messes with Mr D, therefore has to face two very fierce little Miniature Dachshund pups. I’d threaten you with the Patterdale but he’s such a sweetheart it’s laughable to think he’d even try to hurt you. They’re young though. I could still train them to be mean. Angel
