Had to be in the middle of a damn heatwave…

Selena allowed herself to groan as she stood in the public-school playground, trying not to pay attention to the humidity as it swept through Manhattan, making her crave the comfort of an arctic-ice bath back in Eyrie Tower.

The children would be coming soon.

It was the first day of the ‘Summer School Program’ and she was beyond nervous. In truth, she hadn’t been this nervous since… well… she couldn’t recall the last time she had felt this nervous.

The program had been approved after last week’s meeting, though the ‘board’ being headed by Leslie Sanderson continued to make noise. Almost everyday, there were emails in Selena’s inbox from Evette Harris, the young teacher being a sort of ‘partner’ to the platinum-blonde.

In short: Leslie was continuing her pursuit to take down the program - More like take me and Deanna down. Selena thought bitterly. Leslie had always hated the Frost family, ever since they had moved into the Black Arrow neighbourhood over eight years ago, and whether it was with her own child, William, or with Halloween decorations or neighbourhood committees, Sanderson did all she could to be ‘above’ the ‘lesbians’.

The woman was so obsessed that she was endangering Selena’s own son’s future, which was what the wrestler found inexcusable. And now, to keep that from happening, Selena had become… a teacher. A Phys. Ed teacher. she reminded herself, casting her eyes to see the black leggings, white running shoes, and dark purple t-shirt she wore, hoping the thirteen students-

Ten. Selena reminded herself sadly. Unfortunately, three of the children had turned down the offer in favor of transferring to new schools.

Gazing around the playground, Selena beheld her work. She had set up a series of pylons, basketballs, rubber balls for dodgeball, and jump-ropes. Her goal was to split the kids up into groups and go through different games while learning about each other. At the end, they would come together and share what they had learned in a sort of presentation, to prepare them for their final project in six weeks.

After Rise to Greatness… Selena shook her head. She didn’t want to think about RTG right now. It was bad enough she had Breakdown to concern herself with first. How the hell did that match even happen?

It’s not that she had any specific qualms with Polly… but fighting her again? Hadn’t Polly just lost a match last week to Josh Hudson… Well, that could explain it. Selena reasoned. Either it’s her hurt ego or CHBK is up to something…

She felt the irritation prick her spine. She could almost look forward to the match as a sort of ‘exercise’ for herself - she had already beaten Polly cleanly several weeks ago before Taking Hold of the Flame - but the woman had fired off some tripe about being ‘stuck in a cage’ with ‘no way out’ – as if it gave her an advantage over the world champion.

“What a fucking fool.” Selena growled to herself. The girl clearly knew NOTHING of Selena - Shocking.

For a moment, the platinum-blonde let the memories wash over her. Memories of her stepmother trying to drown her in the tub. Of being locked in trunks, cellars, changerooms, and/or lockers by Gavin and his cronies for hours on end. The hell of a few months that Polly kept playing at as a sort of ‘poor me’ act for the SCW Universe? Selena WISHED it had only been a few months of such punishment for her, but no – it had been OVER A DECADE - that she had suffered such abuse with basically no one to turn to.

She knows nothing… Selena growled as she suddenly heard the bells ring. Within seconds, the doors from the inside of the school opened and ten students came walking out.

“Over here children!” she nervously waved them over. She waited until they were all standing before her – taking an extra second to spot her son, David, among them, wearing his blue shorts and Spider-Man t-shirt. Don’t embarrass him! This is for him and to impress Deanna…

“Well…” Selena breathed, eyeing each child. If the numbers were correct, there were four grade 5s, two grade 4s and four grade 3s. “I imagine you all know why you’re here. This is your… third class today?”

“Second.” Called out a tall girl with dark skin.
“Ah, thank you.” Selena smiled at the girl, seeing the nametag on her gray shirt. “Sophia. Well, my name is Mrs. Frost. And I’ll get this out of the way, I am David’s mother.” She gestured to her son. “So, if you hear him calling me ‘Mom’, that’s why.”

She heard a little chuckle come from some of the students, specifically the young girl standing beside David, seemingly his age and grade. “Anyway…” Selena continued. “I am your Phys. Ed teacher. We will meet at this time Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday every week for the next six weeks to do activities. At the end, I will evaluate you on- Oh yes…ummm?” she saw the raised hand and tried to read the nametag. “Garret?”

“Yes.” The short, round boy remarked. “Why only Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday?”

“A fair question.” Selena nodded. “You’ll find my classes are longer because I am not available for Thursdays or Fridays. I…um… well…”

“My mom’s a wrestler.” David called out. “She has to beat people up.”

“David!” Selena remarked in shock and some chastisement.
“Well you do…” he shrugged.
“It’s okay, Mrs. Frost.” Sophia remarked. “A few of us know of you. My dad watches SCW with me sometimes.”
“Oh… okay.” Selena replied nervously, not sure of how to proceed with that information.

“Question!” called out the girl standing beside Sophia, this one appearing more tomboyish with short-cropped hair, shorts, shirt and a baseball-hat worn backwards. “Are we going to do any wrestling-stuff? I wanna wrestle in a cage!”

“Certainly not.” Selena stated firmly. “That is not something for young children to be doing.”
“But you’re doing it!” the girl – her nametag reading ‘Mara’ – whined.
“I’m an adult.” Selena sighed. “And that kind of thing – especially in a cage – is very dangerous! People can get hurt or seriously injured. I do not want to see anyone trying anything like that in my classes. Understood?”
“Understood.” The class grumbled.

“Good.” Selena nodded. “Now, for today, we are going to be dividing you into groups and you will be going to the different stations throughout the playground. While there, I want you to share something with your partner or partners as you play. And when you’re done-“

She heard the sound faintly at first before it grew louder.

“HEY! HEY! HO! HO! THOSE CHEATERS HAVE GOT TO GO!” It took three repeats of that for Selena to understand what was being said as the small group of adults rounded the corner to enter the playground area. All were carrying signs with similar messages. And there, in the front…

“There they are!” Leslie Sanderson remarked, hiking up her own sign and thrusting it like she was stabbing the sky. “All together now!” she called out to the group, starting another chant. For a moment, Selena watched them before turning her attention back to her students. So much for a peaceful first day…

“Alright, kids.” She remarked. “Let’s get you started.”
“What about?” Sophia tried, but Selena quietly shushed her.

“I’ll take care of that.” She smiled kindly. Within five minutes, she had established the groupings and gotten them started at different ‘stations’. “When you hear the whistle…” she explained, pulling the small tool out of her pocket. “Switch over to the next numbered station.”

“Yes, Mrs. Frost.” The class nodded before they began playing. That taken care of, the platinum-blonde cast a glare at the ‘protestors’ before rolling her shoulders back and marching over to them.

“New low, Leslie.” She called out to the ringleader.
“We will not be silenced just because you bought the principal’s vote.” Sanderson shot back.
“I didn’t buy her vote.” Selena countered. “This just has nothing to do with any of you unless one of those children are yours.”

“We’re not paying for ‘extra classes’!” shouted one parent.
“No, you’re not!” Selena fired back. “I’m paying for this program! It’s all out of my pocket.”
“So you just make the rules for our school?!” Leslie countered quickly. “What kind of school is that? Where the super-rich get to buy their way through?! Am I right?” she shrilled, earning nods and approval from the others.

“Okay, screw this.” Selena sighed. “I’m calling the cops.”
“Nice try!” Leslie laughed that horrible laugh. “But this is a peaceful protest on public property! We have every right to be here!”

It was enough to stop Selena from retrieving her phone. “Alright, Leslie…” Selena sighed, lowering her voice. “I want to know what it’s going to take to stop this. I can’t stop you, but you can’t stop my class either.”

Despite herself, Leslie narrowed her eyes at Selena. “Go on.”

“What is it going to take to solve this?” Selena asked. “Is this really about them?” she asked, gesturing to the students. “Or is this about you, me and Deanna? Because if that’s all this is about, then let’s settle it now.”

Looking behind her for a moment, Leslie bit her lower lip before grabbing Selena’s arm, telling the other parents to ‘wait here’ before dragging the taller woman away. Quickly, Selena blew her whistle to get the kids to switch stations, just to keep them engaged.

Alone, the two women stood near the door of the school. “What do you have in mind?” Leslie asked.

“Same as the past.” Selena shrugged. “A competition. You think these kids don’t belong in the school? I say they do. So, let’s settle it. Pick five kids from your protestors and let’s see if my students can keep up with them.”

“Oh please!” Leslie laughed. “What makes you think a couple of cheaters will play fairly?”
“Cause Warlow can officiate or whatever.” Selena shrugged. “Same grade students compete against one another. You pick 4 grade 5s, 2 grade 4s and 4 grade 3s. If my class wins the most events, you drop this thing and let them finish the summer school! No more protests, no more harassing us!”

Narrowing her eyes, Leslie slowly let a small grin form across her lips. “And if I win…” she didn’t let Selena speak. “You leave.”

“Fine.” Selena shrugged. “I’ll not be involved with the school. Deanna can-“
“Oh no no nooooo.” Leslie laughed, even wagging a finger at the Snow Queen. “Not leave the school, Selena. I mean you leave The Black Arrow neighbourhood.”

“What?!” Selena asked in disbelief, shock radiating through her.

“That’s right.” Leslie laughed. “If you and your cheaters lose – you take your kids and your fake-wife… and leave your little ‘Forever House’…” she leaned closer to Selena, her grin never fading. “And never come back!”

The Royal Letter

So… Toronto, Canada!

Do you believe?

You can’t really believe in Kandis or Scott or even Polly anymore, right? I mean, how do you screw up a 3-on-1 match? Hell, there were even chairs involved! And still they couldn’t do anything. I didn’t even lose an eye or a limb or break a bone!

Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself. Truth is, I don’t care if you believe in them anymore. Cause if anything was proven last time I wrestled, it’s that there’s a reason I’m the world champion and they are not. Because even with their ‘plans’, their ‘tricks’ and ‘stacked odds’, they still can’t beat me.

But let me tell you who I don’t believe in anymore… Adam Sharper.

I watched the whole interview last week and, come on, Adam! Could you get any more bias and one-sided? You all saw it! The man asked Hudson one question and then let the man rant on and on without a word. But me? Everything I said, he tried to counter with questions and discredit. Where was this ‘journalistic integrity’ when Hudson was bad-mouthing your world champion, Adam? When he referred to me as a ‘novice’? When he accused me of throwing people down the river when I’ve been lifting this sport to a level that no one on the planet can touch. Where were your hard-hitting questions then, Adam?

No, Sharper seemed more interested in putting me on the defensive. In dragging my private life into the equation just because Hudson wants to flaunt his fling with Bree Lancaster on national television.

You disappoint me, Adam. I expected better of you. More integrity and fairness from you. Seems I asked for too much. Just like I’ve asked for too much, it seems, by demanding fairness and skill win out for the world title because that’s apparently all people can talk about. How I’m hiding. How I’m lying. How I’m ‘rigging the game’. Meanwhile, they’re cheering Kandis and Scott bringing in chairs to a wrestling match. They’re cheering Polly Pignotti for bringing her pals in to interfere and help her. But I’M the one hiding? I’m the one that ‘needs help’?

Week after week, my mission statement hasn’t changed. And week after week, you all remind me why I need to be here doing what I do. Why I am the only person that seems to have any integrity in this business. Because you’re all so desperate, by hook or crook, to find holes in my logic. Find faults in me… and you can’t. Even Sharper. Just spinning rhetoric. Just making conjectures when the truth is so obvious, even he can’t grasp it.

Beat me. That’s all you have to do. Beat me for this title clean and you’re the champion. So simple and yet none of you can seem to grasp it.

I mean, how many months has it been? Six? Six months of staying true to my mission and no one’s gotten it through their heads. Six months of surviving every challenge that comes my way. Of holding people accountable – even the Canadian Heartbreak Kid!

Oh yeah, you think I forgot about him? Why do you think I was laughing after that sham of a fatal-fourway? I was picturing CHBK in his office, cursing and swearing like a sailor because his little plan to ‘make Selena pay’ failed because he relied on the egotistical, talentless hacks of The One and Kandis! I was smiling because I was just picturing him scrambling to his phone, trying to think of another way to ‘punish me’ while he lets Kandis go unpunished after she assaulted officials and superstars.

And it seems CHBK still wants to try something. Cause he’s got me up in a cage match now. He’s got me locked in a cage with Polly Pignotti. Me…against Polly… again? I mean, even Sharper wasn’t THAT obvious with his bias!

Yeah, I’m laughing a little because… this is a little like déjà vu, isn’t it, Polly? Didn’t we have this little dance before? Before Taking Hold of the Flame? Straight up wrestling match, right? You told the world you had ‘more heart than me’, that you were ‘tougher than me’, that you were ‘this and that’ more than me? ‘The Soul of SCW’, right? How’d that go? Hell, we had something like that just a few weeks ago. You told the world you were more ‘nasty’, more ‘callous’, ‘more cold’ than I ever was…

How’d THAT go?

See, every time you and I face, you tell me how much ‘more’ and ‘better’ this next version I’m about to face is… and I still win. And then, you come back the next week with the same consolation speech. “Selena didn’t win! She survived! She got lucky!”

I mean… guess I got a rabbit’s foot somewhere on me, Polly, cause after all the times a Frost has beaten you and your ‘versions’, we got to be the luckiest women alive, right?

Or maybe it’s not that at all. Maybe you’re just delusional. Maybe you’re so high on your own ego with your cheerleading squad constantly telling you ‘you’re SO the best!’ that you can’t see the reality for what it is. That, like everyone else here, you’re the one twisting the narrative rather than seeing the truth about why I am the greatest wrestler in SCW history and why I have, and continue to be, better than you!

Because what is it now, Polly, huh? What’s the difference this time around? The fact that you and I will be locked in a cage? Because you’ve been in a cage before in some sort of twisted, over the top BDSM fantasy of yours? That it? You’ve played in a cage for a bit so that gives you homefield advantage? “No one knows what it’s like to go through what I went through”.

Let me do what I do and bring you back to reality, Polly. Because if the cage was your ‘place’, why didn’t you win the last one you were in? Chamber match, right? Under Attack last year? Come on, Polly, tell me! You’re planning to embarrass me in the cage, right? To ‘humiliate me and bring me to my knees’, right? Like the last time you faced a Frost in one?

Look, I can almost respect your obsession, Polly. I can. The fact that you keep coming after me, keep desperately trying to fight me just so you can get that ‘one victory over a Frost’ that you can hold onto and milk for all its worth. Very ‘Kandis-like’. I get it. I can almost respect it and your drive for it, Polly. I can even say, in all honesty, that it’s got the makings of a future world champion!

But your little ‘Playtime’ in a cage? What you think gives you an ‘edge’? Can’t compare to me in this enclosure.

You ‘played a little’ in a cage, Polly. I’ve become its master! I grew up locked in chambers and trunks and lockers until I developed claustrophobia. Ask Sharper – he remembers. Even so, I’ve entered into more cage and chamber matches than you’ve ever dreamed of! And while you barked like a little dog in yours, I howled like a wolf in mine! And, like a big bad wolf, I devoured anyone that was inside of it!

Matt Auclair, Trinity Street, Chris Cannon, The Beauty Network, New Eden, Blood Grove, Infamous – even the current Adrenaline champion that can’t seem to keep me out of her mouth: Bree Lancaster!

All went against me, all were torn apart by me. I have ripped apart superstars in this structure. I have crippled factions, depowered a D., and thrived until I owned my fear and the very chamber that was my torment!

Do you understand, Polly?

Last time we fought, I wasn’t the one that was saved. You were. Colleen, Ainsling and Dumont came in to save you. Kandis and Scott had each other and their chairs. No one came in to save me. No one came in to protect me and ‘even the odds’ like they protected you!

This time around? No one is coming to save you, Polly. Not Colleen. Not Ainsling. Not Dumont. No one. You’re going to be back in that cage, but instead of being alone, barking like a little puppy about how ‘ready you are’ and how ‘better you are than Selena Frost’, you’re going to be locked in there with a wolf.

A wolf that knows that structure better than you. A wolf that is tired of dealing with you. A wolf that is tired of hearing you promise victory after victory and can’t deliver. A wolf that is done listening to your delusional little rants… and has nothing in her way to do whatever she wants to you!

Because, in the end, Polly, you might be good and getting better, but the truth – the lesson that you still can’t grasp – is that you’re not ready! You don’t know a damn thing about being in my world! Being on my level! Being the needle-mover! The standard!

And in Toronto, I am going to show that as I take this latest ‘punishment’ that either you or CHBK cooked up and, like last time, make you both regret it. Because this time, I won’t be stopping until I’m finished with you, Polly. Until your ‘barks’ are little more than whimpers as you lay on the mat. Until the puppy… the little bitch… recognizes who ‘the master’ in SCW truly is.

But take solace in one thing, Polly. When I am done, you will certainly be the first. Not ‘the first to beat Selena Frost in 2024’ like you are craving with every breath, but rather, you will be the first to truly know what awaits SCW for Rise to Greatness. Because after I beat you again…after I am done tearing you apart… you’ll have both a loss from Hudson and another loss from me to compare.

And you will know, deep in your soul, which one hurts more… which one was more painful… which one was further above your ‘best’.

And who, beyond a shadow of a doubt, will be the SCW world champion when this month is all said and done!

You will be the first to believe, little puppy. Whether you want to admit it or not!
