Under Attack is just over the horizon. It will be the first major event in November for Supreme Championship Wrestling and, for Glory Braddock, her opportunity to reclaim gold in the form of the SCW Adrenaline Championship. Since declaring her intentions to challenge Magical Cosmic Princess YUYO for the gold weeks ago, Braddock has been honing her skills, putting herself up against stiff competition in the form of Sapphire Taylor and David Striker, all to prepare herself for what will no doubt be one of her biggest challenges to date. YUYO and her Shining Maidens have been a force to be reckoned with since their return to SCW. YUYO herself defeated former world champion Bree Lancaster to win the title and then defeated her again to retain the gold. Dethroning the leader of the Shining Maidens will not be an easy task but Glory Braddock does have one thing working in her favor; she has built up serious momentum heading into this championship match whereas YUYO has already hid a skid. YUYO hit a brick wall when she took on Ryan Lecalier and could not beat her. That was the first real sign of vulnerability within The Magical Cosmic Princess. One weakness, one vulnerability, is all Braddock needs to be able to take advantage of the situation and finally make herself golden again. Braddock’s championship aspirations and potential fulfillment isn’t the only thing working favorably for her right now. She also has something to prove. YUYO has blamed her defeat at Trios on Glory Braddock. The British Bombshell was trained to believe that you win as a team and you lose as a team. YUYO wanting to take all the credit for successes but refusing to accept any of the blame, that shows yet more weakness and more vulnerability. Braddock is determined to prove that she isn’t entirely to blame for the Trios loss, that YUYO shares just as much responsibility, and she will prove it by defeating her at Under Attack.
This isn’t the only thing that seems to be going right in Glory’s life lately. After several tense confrontations with her sister, Julia Braddock, that threatened to ruin her familial relationships, it appears that The British Bombshell has some light at the end of the tunnel, some glimmer of hope shining through the clouds. She may have tensions with Julia right now, but on this day, this saturday in October, she and her husband get to be reunited with both their children, Melinda Braddock and Dawn Logan, for their first real time together in a long time. And for someone who truly values family above anything and everything else, this is very important for Glory Braddock. It is a true blessing.
The dining room glowed with understated elegance. A large, mahogany table sat at the center, polished to a gleaming finish, with enough room for ten yet intimate enough to make the family of four feel close. Overhead, a chandelier cast a warm golden glow, its crystal drops catching the light and throwing soft reflections across the walls. The walls, painted in a deep, rich blue. Fine china was set neatly before each seat, and crystal glasses sparkled under the light, filled with water and a hint of lemon. This was a very special occasion for Glory and her family; this was the first real meal they had been able to have together in a very long time, so The British Bombshell was going all out to make certain that this was special. Glory Braddock sat at the head of the table, her golden blonde hair falling in soft waves past her shoulders. She wore a classic ivory blouse, its delicate lace details adding an air of sophistication, and a fitted navy skirt that emphasized her poise and strength. A single gold chain around her neck glinted subtly as she reached for her glass. Her blue eyes, typically fierce and unyielding, softened as she looked at her family, though an occasional flicker hinted at thoughts lying beneath the surface. To Glory’s right sat her husband, Kurt Logan, whose athletic build and slightly weathered features suggested a man accustomed to the outdoors. His jet black hair was neatly trimmed, and his warm brown eyes radiated a quiet strength. Kurt was dressed simply, in a crisp, sky-blue button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, paired with well-tailored charcoal pants. His easy smile softened his rugged appearance as he reached across the table to help his daughter Dawn with her plate. Dawn Logan, their preteen daughter, sat between her parents. She wore her hair in a loose ponytail that barely contained her boundless energy. She had chosen a light pink dress with a floral pattern. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. Beside Dawn sat Melinda Braddock, Glory’s daughter from a previous relationship. Melinda, already in her early twenties, with her platinum blonde hair, had tied it back in a sleek bun, emphasizing her sharp cheekbones and the slight air of mystery that surrounded her. She wore a black turtleneck sweater, stylish yet understated, paired with dark jeans and ankle boots. Her expression was reserved, but her eyes revealed a keen awareness of everyone and everything around her.
“I have to admit, you really outdid yourself, mom.” Melinda Braddock says as she looks at the spread of food and drinks across the table that includes a turkey, potatoes, corn, carrots, and breads. In terms of drinks there’s water for Dawn, and for the three adults wine. There is a bit of tension in the air. Glory and Melinda have not been under the same roof for awhile and the last time they were under the same roof they were not on very friendly terms. The British Bombshell has admittedly found it difficult to accept Melinda’s relationship with Clyde Sutter, a fellow professional wrestler who had been kicked out of the Braddock Wrestling School for his penchant for too much aggression of too much violence and angry outbursts. Melinda and Glory have drifted apart in the past two years but, recently, Glory has done her best to fix that. A warm smile forms across Glory’s face.
“Well as much as I would love to take credit for all of this, you should know better than I do that i am no cook.” She smirks and then motions to Kurt. “Your step-father is the happy homemaker in this relationship.”
“Oh wow…” Melinda looks over at Kurt “...good job, Kurt. This looks delicious.”
“Hopefully it will be delicious.” Kurt says. “I slaved over this all day. Your mom wanted everything perfect for your arrival.”
“You don’t need to make anything special for me.” Melinda remarks.
“Oh but I do.” Glory answers quickly. “We haven’t been together in a long time, Melinda. This is special for me. And I want you to know that you are always welcome here anytime you want. You know that, right?”
“Here as in Charlotte?” Melinda smirks. “I thought you hated Charlotte.”
“I used to hate it but…” she sighs “...ever since we moved into this place temporarily due to Hurricane Milton, I gotta say that this place, this city, it’s grown on me.”
“So are we staying here forever?” Dawn’s sweet childlike voice chimes in curiously.
“I don’t know.” Glory shrugs her shoulders. “I mean, I know the damage was minimal in Miami so we could easily go back home but, I dunno, we haven’t been here very long and I would hate to just pack right back up and leave so soon. So we’ll probably stay here at least a little longer.”
“You should stay here permanently.” Melinda states. “The farther away you can get from that crazy broad Aphrodite the better.”
“Yes, well, your opinions on that matter are well noted.” Glory states with a bit of a light hearted chuckle. “But instead of talking about things that divide us, let’s talk about more upbeat, positive, and uniting subjects…like politics and religion?”
This brings laughter from everyone at the table. Braddock’s humor used to be one of her strong suits. She hasn’t relied on it in a long time but now, when she wants to bring her family back together, she decides that it is a good idea to use it again. It happened to work. Kurt Logan decides to use the opportunity to change the subject.
“Instead of that, how about let’s go around the table and talk about what we’ve been up to lately? We haven’t been together in awhile so this would be a good way to bond.”
“Great idea, Kurt.” Glorys says with a wink. “You start.”
“Way to put me on the spot, babe.” Kurt chuckles. “This move to Charlotte has definitely helped me. I have had a small wrestling academy in Charlotte that Glory’s company has helped fund. I haven’t been able to be as involved as I’d like to be since we lived in Miami but now? Being here in Charlotte with the academy? I have been able to work directly with the young wrestling talent.”
“That’s good, Kurt.” Glory says. “You have so much wrestling expertise and knowledge that should not go to waste.”
“What about you?” Kurt asks. “Tell the girls what you have been doing in SCW?”
“Under Attack is November 3rd. We’ll be in Detroit.”
“You won a few world championships there.” Melinda points out.
“I know and I hope to channel some of that history and magic because I’m facing YUYO for the Adrenaline Title.”
“Is that the weird chick who thinks she’s some kinda space princess who shouts explosion all the damn time?”
“That’s her.” Glory nods her head. Melinda snickers.
“Finally…someone so crazy that she makes Aphrodite look normal.”
“Melinda…” Kurt says her name in a tone that is clear and evident as a warning to avoid the subject of Aphrodite Noel, Glory’s mentor whom Melinda has strong negative feelings about. Melinda sighs and shakes her head.
“Sorry!”
“In any event, that Adrenaline Title was the first championship I won in SCW. So needless to say, it holds a very special place in my heart. Winning it again would be huge for me. But as…unique…as YUYO may seem, she is equally as deadly in that ring. I cannot afford any mistakes.”
“You’ll do fine.” Melinda insists. “Besides, she’s nuts. She blames you for losing at Trios?”
“Eh, let her whine. Under Attack isn’t about Trios. That was in the past. This is now about the Adrenaline Championship.”
“Still, she’s crazy and you’re going to win.” Melinda says. Glory grins and points at Melinda.
“Thanks, but…uh…what about you? What have you been busy with?”
“Clyde and I are working a few promotions together. Which means we get to travel on the road together and spend a lot more time together when we’re not at home. Oh and, uh, mom? Thanks…”
“Thanks?” Glory asks curiously. “For what?”
“I know you have your feelings about Clyde. I know you don’t trust him. But thank you for giving him a chance. He’s changed and he is really good to me.”
“I may not ever trust him but as long as he is good to you that’s all I care about.” Glory turns her attention to Dawn. “Well, kiddo, it looks like it’s your turn. What have you been busy with?”
There is a brief, tense pause as everyone’s attention turns towards Dawn, waiting for her answer. But there is only silence. Kurt and Glory appear confused whereas Melinda seems more concerned than anything else. The British Bombshell decides to ask her daughter again, hoping maybe she will answer on the second attempt.
“Uh, Dawnie, everyone else shared. It’s your turn. What have you been busy with? Something at school, maybe?”
“I don’t wanna talk about it.” Dawn says quietly.
“Oh c’mon, squirt,” Kurt says lovingly, patting her on the back “there’s gotta be something.”
“No…” Dawn says again, her voice trailing off.
“Dawn. Is everything ok?” Glory asks curiously.
“Kurt! Mom!” Melinda exclaims, now her expression going from that of confusion to one of determination, determined to protect her sister. “Back off! She doesn’t want to talk!”
“Sorry, Mel, but…”
“Guys…” Dawn tries to chime in but no one is listening.
“Mom, just stop…” Melinda says.
“GUYS!” Dawn shouts this time, a rarity for the young girl. Everyone’s attention once more turns to Dawn. Melinda sighs as she leans back, folds her arms over her chest in frustration. “I’ll tell you.”
“Tell us what?” Glory asks.
“I got into a fight at school the other day.”
“A fight? What?!” Glory is shocked. “Why the hell weren’t myself or your father notified?”
“My fault.” Melinda states. “I forged your signature on the parental notification. Turns out I’m good at it.”
“Great…” Glory sighs “...just great…”
“Dawn, go to your room.” Kurt says. “We’ll deal with you later.”
Dawn nods her head sadly. She slowly gets out of her chair and exits the dining room. There is an awkward silence that remains in the dining room for quite some time, even after Dawn has left. Finally the ice and the tension is broken when Glory turns to address her oldest daughter Melinda.
“Why didn’t you tell us about this?”
“Dawn confided in me secretly.” Melinda states. “She was afraid of you two finding out. She’s been your perfect little angel for so damn long she couldn’t imagine what it would be like to be on your bad side. Hell, I felt bad for her.”
“I get that you were trying to protect your sister and I am proud of you for wanting to protect her. But this is different.” Glory states. “Something like this, you cannot keep it a secret from us. You have to leave the parenting to us. Understand?”
“Yeah, I get you.”
“What was the fight about?” Kurt asks curiously.
“No clue.” Melinda shrugs her shoulders. “She never told me that.”
“Well I am going to find out and then I am going to make sure she doesn’t get into any fights again.” Glory says with a determined tone in her voice. She rises up out of her chair and starts to walk off until Melinda calls out to her.
“Mom, wait…” Glory stops and turns to face Melinda “...look, I don’t know if she started the fight or if she just ended the fight, but either way, it might be a good idea to teach Dawn how to defend herself.”
“Seriously?” Glory asks, sounding incredulous. “You want me to give her the tools to actually seriously hurt someone? That’s the response you want me to have to this fight?”
“We don’t have all the information yet.” Kurt says. “So, y’know, maybe keep an open mind?”
“Fair enough.” Glory nods her head before turning and making her exit out of the dining room.
As The British Bombshell walked down the hallway toward Dawn’s room, the quiet elegance of the house gave way to a cozy, more personal atmosphere. Dawn’s room was a bright, inviting space. The walls were painted a soft lavender, giving the room a calming, almost dreamlike quality in the dim evening light. Strings of delicate fairy lights hung around the edges of the ceiling, casting a warm glow over everything and adding a touch of magic to the room. A canopy bed dominated the space, its white frame adorned with sheer curtains that hung gracefully from the top, giving Dawn a private sanctuary within her own room. The bedspread was a soft pastel pink, covered with an assortment of decorative pillows in various shades of purple, teal, and cream. At the foot of the bed lay a well-worn, fluffy throw blanket. A small desk sat by the window, cluttered but organized in a way that only a young girl’s room could be. Near the foot of her bed sat a small shelf lined with stuffed animals, some new and some worn from years of love. A well-loved bear with a missing button eye seemed to hold a place of honor, propped up against a unicorn with a shimmering mane. Glory found Dawn sitting cross-legged on the bed, her face partially hidden by her long hair as she stared down at her hands. The usual sparkle in her eyes seemed dulled, her usual vibrant energy muted in the quiet of the room.
“So, Dawn, how are you feeling?”
“I’m sorry, mom.” Dawn says quietly. Glory sighs as she walks over, ever so carefully and quietly, to the edge of the bed and sits down next to her youngest daughter. She wraps a comforting, gentle arm around her shoulder and pats her on the back.
“First thing, you and your sister shouldn’t have tried to keep this from me. You should have told me, or your father.”
“I know. I was just afraid.”
“I know but you don’t have to be afraid of telling me or your father anything. Ok? We just want the best for you and we want to help. You know that, right?”
“Uh-huh…”
“Good.” Glory nods her head. “So let us help you. Tell me, what happened? How did this fight get started?”
“I didn’t start the fight.” Dawn shakes her head insistently.
“Then who did?” Glory asks curiously. “Did someone pick a fight with you?”
“No.” Dawn shakes her head. “One of my friends was being bullied.”
“Oh I get it now.” A small hint of a smile forms on Glory’s face as a sense of understanding of the situation washes over her. “And you…you fought the bully.”
“Yeah.” Dawn admits quietly with a nod of her head. Finally the young girl looks up at her mother. “Am I in trouble?”
“You are in trouble…” Glory lets that sink in before winking knowingly at her “...you are in trouble for lying to your father and I. You are NOT in trouble for the fighting.”
“Seriously?!” Dawn’s face seemingly lights up at this news.
“Absolutely not.” She pats her on the back lovingly. “In fact, this is just more proof that you are definitely a Braddock through and through. This is more evidence that you really are my daughter.”
“What’s that mean?”
“Fighting against bullies is in your blood, kid.” Glory winks at her. “Throughout my career, the second most important priority in my wrestling career, second only to winning championship gold, was to fight for the little guy, to fight bullies.”
“Is YUYO a bully?”
“No.” Glory chuckles. “Misguided? A bit strange? Yes. But a bully? No. My match at Under Attack is one of those rare occasions where I am not fighting for justice or fighting a bully or any of that stuff. I’m just fighting for a title. But you, what you did at school, that shows you have a good heart. In fact, I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks, mom.” Dawn says with a warm smile on her face.
“Just be careful if you ever decide to stick up for someone again in that same kind of manner, ok? My father…your grandfather…he used to tell me very often that a wrestler is his or her own deadliest weapon. That means that we have knowledge to hurt people, knowledge that could be used in any sort of fashion. We should use this wisely.”
“What’s that mean?” Dawn asks.
“It means just because you CAN beat someone up doesn’t mean you SHOULD.” Glory states. “Sometimes there are other ways to resolve a conflict and stick up for your friends, to fight bullies and fight for justice, and to do so without having to resort to physical conflict. Use those tiny fists of yours as a last resort.”
“But what if I DO have to fight?” Dawn asks. “What if I can’t avoid it?”
“Well maybe it’s time you should learn how?” Glory says with a warm grin. “Maybe it’s time to learn how to resolve conflict without resorting to violence, and, if you are open to that, I will also let your father start working with you on some wrestling skills. How does that sound?”
“That sounds great!” Dawn’s face lights up. She is thrilled, almost as if this is exactly what she had been hoping for. She leans over and embraces her mother in a tight hug. “Thanks, mom.”
“No problem, Dawn. Now why don’t you wipe those tears and come on back to the dining room? That food your father made won’t eat itself.”
