“It could be anywhere!” Deanna sighed as she pulled out another thick and heavy binder, this one with a picture of flower-blossoms decorating the entire cover. Turning, she walked back to the couch where she had been sitting. “You’d think they’d organize these a bit better. Maybe some labels.”
“This from the woman that had somehow put Easter decorations in the ‘Halloween decorations’ section of the storage garage.” Selena mused with a smile, earning a glare from the redhead.
“That ‘Easter Bunny’ looked terrifying! Like he was ready to stab me in the back with a knife!” Deanna countered. “He belonged in that section!”
“Uh-huh.” Selena shot a quick glance and a smirk towards the redhead before returning her attention to the task at hand. “And I think you watched Donnie Darko one too many times.”
The only reply Selena heard was the sound of a raspberry, to which she did not lift her gaze, merely choosing to keep her eyes on the current page of photos. They were various positions. Some horizontal, some vertical, some in color, some in black and white for ‘tone’, she guessed. But each one seemed to be a ‘moment’. A memory in the lives of Amelia and Isabella Springs. “So many different events in their lives.” Selena remarked. “Maybe we should have kept a photo album.” She postured out loud.
“We did.” She heard Deanna remark, the redhead flipping through the pages of the book she held.
“We have external hard-drives, Deanna.” The Snow Queen corrected. “This…” she held up her book a little, though Deanna’s eyes weren’t on her. “This is time and patience and clearly a passion for memories.”
“Or a hobby of photography.” Deanna shrugged. “Even so…” she took the opportunity then to lift her gaze at Selena. “I was quite happy with the hard-drives and folders. Organized, easy to find… I looked at them a lot after you left.”
“Really?” Selena looked up at that, tilting her head at Deanna. “I have too since… well, all of this.” She gestured around the room, indicating Deanna’s current location. “I really wish I had copied them – for my own computer in NYC, you know?”
“Well…” Deanna shrugged. “You can. I don’t mind.”
Selena smiled at that. “I appreciate that.” She offered before refocusing her eyes back on the page in front of her, and the various photos strewn along it.
The idea had come to her a short while after Deanna had gone to her room to think about the situations in SCW – with her, with Enigma, with the United States Championship, with Blake Mason… there was a lot to process and the platinum-blonde couldn’t begrudge the redhead the need for space. In response, Selena had wracked her brain about trying to make some kind of ‘amends’ with Amelia after her earlier screwup with the cop’s burnt shrub in the front yard. She had learned, from Izzy, of how important the plant was to Amelia – and to Izzy but not as much as she saw their marriage as the true mark of their love for one another. It was during this discussion that Selena’s idea came about. Quickly, she had sent Isabella out with at least $200 in cash for her to find the item they were looking for – Isabella knowing the lost bush more than either Selena or Deanna. That left Selena and Deanna with the second part of the task: photo-hunting.
Izzy was sure a photo of her and Amelia by the shrub was taken and placed in one of the albums. Selena thought as she flipped through the pages. “Hey! They went to Disney World!” She remarked, shooting a gaze up at Deanna. The redhead gave a quick nod before returning to her own searching, seemingly, and suddenly, very taken by the photos she was seeing. With a shrug, Selena did the same.
For what it was worth, she was grateful for the help. While Deanna had not yet spoken about SCW and the events Selena had brought up, she seemed in better spirts and, for that, Selena was grateful. Fatal Fortunes would surely rock SCW in some way – it always did every year – and she would decide what to do about that afterwards.
There was little that the event could change for her highest desire. She wanted to face Blake Mason. Fatal Fortunes could only, at best, delay that somehow. Still, she wanted to be the one deciding the factors. She had left those for CHBK to deal with with the chamber and Mason had managed to weasel out of it. She was not banking on Fatal Fortunes to get the job done. No… she would deal with this herself and do all she could to make a match happen between her and the bastard – A match that he cannot escape from… she thought.
Meanwhile, she would just take on whatever was thrown her way. Simple as that. She assumed nothing and expected less from the events. Whatever happened, she would find a way to use it to her advantage…
“So…” the voice from the other side of the room caught Selena’s attention, the Snow Queen lifting her head up again to see emerald-eyes on her. “What you said… earlier today…”
“Which part?” Selena asked, leaning forward a little bit. “Mason? Enigma? The U.S title?”
“No…” Deanna shook her head. “About still being in love with me.” She gave an awkward tilt of her head left and right. “We just going to dismiss that?”
Raising an eyebrow, Selena merely shrugged her shoulders. “Yeah, pretty much.”
“Seriously?” Deanna huffed. “Come on, Selena.”
“Deanna… why does this surprise you?” Selena asked, genuinely confused. “I’ve never changed in my feelings. Never strayed from wanting to be your wife even when the world was falling around and I knew it would all, eventually, blow up in my face. Why does this surprise you now?”
“I don’t know! It just…” She shrugged. “Does.”
“Well…” Selena shook her head. “Get over it, okay? It’s not new. It’s not sudden. I love you – am in love you. Hasn’t changed in almost ten years.”
“But you say it so casually!” Deanna sighed. “Like it’s just as easy as-“
“Breathing?” Selena fired back impatiently. “Cause it is for me, Deanna. Okay? I repeat, almost ten years of loving nobody else to that degree but you and our children. It’s who I am now. It’s part of me. Why do you think Mason went after you?”
Deanna didn’t answer, merely sitting back in the couch for a moment. “You’re supposed to move on.” She muttered under her breath.
“I am.” Selena answered. “I’m going through the divorce as you requested. I’m settling things with you as you wish – assuming your lawyer gets in touch with me.”
“Yeah…” Deanna sighed. “This whole thing with Enigma sort of slowed that down, didn’t it?”
Selena shrugged. “Whatever you want for you and the children, I’ll provide. I’ve already made that clear.”
“If I’m not ‘mentally-cleared’ to wrestle, Selena, you think I am cleared to handle divorcing you?!”
The question caught Selena off-guard, the Snow Queen’s eyes wide as she stared across the room at the redhead.
“I…” she tried to speak. “No rush then…” she settled on saying, earning a nod from Deanna. The two remained in silence for a few minutes, looking through the various photos on the various pages.
“So…” Selena tried, biting her lower lip as she adjusted her maroon sweater a bit more over her blue-jeaned lap. “With your location being known to Mason… I was thinking about finding you a new place… One that was not known to SCW and-“ she lifted her head, hoping to have the younger woman’s attention…
Instead, she saw emerald-eyes staring down at the book in front of them, filled with unshed tears. “Deanna?” Selena asked cautiously, even more cautiously pushing herself off the couch and moving closer towards her ex-wife. When Deanna gave no sign as to the platinum-blonde’s approach, nor any resistance to it, Selena quietly sat down beside her, eyeing the page Deanna’s eyes were on.
There were several photos on the page but they were all old – like many decades old, as could be seen by the duller colors. Still, she could see the ‘commonality’ in all of them. In each photo were two adults, dressed in clearly early 2000s’ trends. There was also a young child standing beside them and in their arms was either a baby or a younger girl (Selena assumed it was the baby growing up into childhood years). One photo had the adults holding the baby, another was with them standing by a Christmas tree, another still with pumpkins and costumes…
“Your parents.” Selena concluded, earning a slow nod and sniffle from Deanna.
“I… I don’t remember any of these.” Deanna sniffed, placing a hand on one of the photos.
Lelucius and Zamira Springs. Selena had seen only a few photos of them in her entire relationship with Deanna. They had died in a car accident when Deanna was only 4, leaving Amelia (18 at the time) to raise her by herself. In many ways, Amelia was a mother to Deanna, which was why she had been so protective of her when Deanna had shown up, and why she took Deanna’s leaving to be with Selena so personally.
Still, she had never hidden the fact from Deanna that they were actually sisters, which made Deanna all the sadder that-
“I wish I had known them.” She remarked. “I’ll bet they’d have quite a lot to say to me now about things.”
“They’d be proud, first and foremost.” Selena remarked, reaching out to take Deanna’s hand into hers. “Least we can be sure of that.”
“Amelia would know more about them than I would.” Deanna sighed. “She never spoke about them beyond a few things. I certainly don’t know how they felt about wrestling. Or even me being a lesbian.”
“Well… if Amy went through it-“ Selena shrugged. “Stands to reason-“
“She came out late. After they died.” Deanna replied with a sad shrug, causing a sigh from Selena.
“I am sure they would accept you, Deanna. And they would be there for you-“
“Or they could have been like Anastasia.”
“You really can’t think positive can you?” Selena asked with a incredulous huff. “Come on! Think big! Let’s say they were huge supporters of the LGTBQ+! Let’s say they were all about their little girl being independent and tough! And always doing the right thing! Let’s say they would be at EVERY SCW event! Cheering you on! ‘DE-ANN-UH!’” Selena hyper-pronounced the name. “DEE-ANN-UH! DEE-ANN-UH!”
“Okay! I get it!” Deanna sighed, though there was a smile on her face, just as the door opened and in ran Isabella.
“Found it!” she grinned, holding up her acquired item: a frame made of wood. “Witch-helm! Just like the shrub!” She suddenly eyed the many albums on the floor and couch and chair. “Any luck?”
“Not yet.” Selena shook her head, “But we’ll find it.” She added in assurance, releasing Deanna’s hand to move back across the room to continue her search. “Not like photos are going to get up and walk away.”
Giving a nod, Isabella took a seat on the floor, placing the frame beside her before picking up another album to look through, assisting in the search. The three women sat in private, with Selena and Deanna stealing glances at one another while the other one wasn’t looking.
Even so… Selena thought as she viewed more photos. A memory walking away is a hell of a lot better than a memory forgotten…

The Royal Letter
Now, everyone here is probably expecting me to be like I was at last week’s Breakdown. Coming out in front of a camera all hot and bothered over what happened. Swearing and yelling up and down over what was revealed. That’s what everyone is BELIEVING right now, right? So, I don’t need to ask this city or that city if they ‘believe’ cause that’s what they believe! I’ve heard it for almost a week! Day in and day out!
They believe I’m going to come out here and make some promises. Make some guarantees. Talk about Fatal Fortunes and begging fate to ‘favour me’ with what I want. Do what I want. That I’ll demand Blake Mason for what he’s done, right? That’s what you all believe, right?
That isn’t going to happen here.
Because I don’t dance to ANYONE’S tune. I answer to NO ONE but me! That’s who I am. That’s what I do! And if Blake Mason wants to think he ‘has me’, well… let me give you all a bit of a history lesson. Last time he got involved in my ‘business’? I made his life a living hell for weeks! I smashed him with a chair. I kicked his damn head off! I cost him the SCW world championship in his hometown!
That… That was just from him messing with my business. Now? After all of that, he wants to make it personal. He’s messing with my family. So… what the hell do you think I am going to do to him now?
That’s why I’m not mad. That’s why I’m not huffing and puffing like I was on Breakdown. Because Blake Mason, despite all his money and his lawyers and his resources, he hasn’t realized it yet. He’s too stupid to realize it. It hasn’t sunk in what he’s done. And I’m not going to tell him. No. I’m going to show him. Bit by bit. Night by night. When he least suspects it…
But I’ll tell him this… what I’ll be taking away from him this time? It’ll make the last few weeks look like a slap on the wrist in comparison. Blake Mason – your ‘Fatal Fortune’ won’t be coming because of some yearly-event. No. It’ll come when I am ready to deliver it! Of THAT, you can believe, Mason…
In fact, taking from someone – that’s an interesting position for someone like me to be in, am I right? In fact, I’ll go as far as to say that I am the only person in SCW with that position in regards to Fatal Fortunes. Let me post it to you – we all know what everyone talks about this time of year! They want to be ‘the ones’! They want to be the ‘lucky ones’, the ‘fortunate ones’, the ‘fated ones’. One cliché line after another. Everyone’s hoping for a changer. Everyone’s hoping for a winning draw! Wanna be a champion! Wanna be a number-one contender! Wanna retain my title! Wanna be this! Wanna be that!
And here I am – the only one saying – it doesn’t matter for me.
Because it was a year ago. One year ago, at this same event, that all this happened. One event, proof-positive that SCW couldn’t thrive, couldn’t live without me. SCW was on life-support, regardless of what a mouthpiece like James Evans or whiner like Mason will say! SCW NEEDED me! To the point where they faked an appearance by me! They promoted me when I hadn’t been seen for months… just to give it some life! They used MY name, MY legacy, MY star-power, to give itself a shot of adrenaline, a jolt of electricity like a defibrillator to bring itself back to life. To get eyes BACK on SCW. And that… from that ‘Fatal Fortune’… began the return, began the domination, began the unstoppable Blue-Eyed Devil.
All that history. All that supremacy. All that domination from SCW that I did this year. And it all started with just my name being mentioned at Fatal Fortunes – a throwaway tag-match… that held MY name.
So, I say again – the only person that can say it: It doesn’t matter for me what Fortune ‘says’ these next two weeks. Because like I just said to Mason – if I can do all of that with just my name being mentioned… imagine what I’ll do when I am actually there. In MY ring. In MY world. In MY SCW!
That is what every single one of you fellow wrestlers should be begging to fortune for now. Not for a title. Not for a contender match. Not for a jumpstart to your career. Not a lucky break. No, you all need to reshoot your promos and beg fate to not be the one that draws their name with mine!
You need to pray to whatever god or gods you believe in and beg them that you’ll take anything – ANYTHING! - as long as you don’t have your name there on the card next to me. Because as I showed David Striker, as I showed James Evans, and as I showed Blake Mason for weeks, there is only one person that runs this place! One person that OWNS the main-event and it sure as hell isn’t Xander Valentine, or James Evans, or Fall of Man or Blake Mason. It’s SELENA FROST!
And from the top of the ranks to the bottom, I have beaten EVERYONE there is to beat. Not a soul in SCW has my number! Not a soul in SCW has me figured out! There isn’t a roster person that’s been here longer than a song that can match with me, that can keep up with me, and everyone in the back knows it!
You can wish for Tag-Titles.
You can wish for singles titles.
You can wish for a title-shot in the future.
But there isn’t a single person wishing to face me. Because they know what facing me means. It’s the opposite of ‘good fortune’. It’s truly ‘Fatal Fortune’. Because regardless of who I face, regardless of the name I draw, I will be taking EVERYTHING they have! If they have a title? I’ll be taking it. If they have momentum? I’ll be taking it. If they have hope, if they have ego, if they have goals, if they have dreams, I. Will. Be. Taking. All of it!
So, for ‘those ones’, I’ll share a little message for you. I’m sorry that it has to be you. I’m sorry that it NEEDS to be you. I’m sorry that I will be taking everything from you and leaving nothing left for you to cling to. But what that means is… is that SCW is getting what it needs, just like last year. SCW is getting what it has to have in order to keep operating at the level I brought it up to.
And if that means I take a title? So be it.
If that means I get ANOTHER promised title-shot to use at my discretion, so be it.
If that means I’ve got to kill dreams, break some more spines, knockout a few more egos, so be it.
But for you ‘ones’, let me give you the last bit of truth about your ‘fates’. When it’s all said and done and you’re just like all the rest that fell to me – the people that bragged to be ‘better’ than me that I shut up fast with a swift kick… when you join that list, you’ll have two choices to make. Just two.
Either do what I did last year and make something of your ‘fortune’… or make like Josh Hudson when he lost a match and just quit.
That choice – the choice of your future – will be on you. Whether you ones want to believe it… or not.
Sincerely,
Selena Michelle Frost
