She sat on the couch, her left hand gently tapping the ceramic white tea cup she held. The heat from the tea did all it could to quell her uneasiness, allowing the Snow Queen to stay seated as she alternated between tapping her drink and sipping it.

Which was more than could be said of Deanna who continued to pace back and forth in front of the former world champion, her teeth working away at her thumb’s nail in nervous twitch.

“You’re working yourself up.” Selena sighed as she watched her ex. “It’s just making going to make us more nervous.”
“Doubt that.” Deanna shot back, half-laugh and half-huff. “What could possibly be the problem?”

“I am sure they will tell us when they get here.” Selena answered, her eyes jumping towards any of the devices that displayed the time.

“How can you be so calm?” she suddenly heard Deanna remark, turning her head to see the redhead standing there in disbelief.

“You think I’m calm?” Selena laughed before gesturing towards herself. While she had managed to change into blue jeans and a dark-green sweater, she had had no time to even apply the most basic of makeup to her face. Even her hair, still damp from the quick shower she had allowed herself to have, looked more like a half-dry towel than the thick braid it usually was. “I look like I was caught in a rainstorm.”

Deanna scoffed without thinking. “You look beautiful.” She spoke, also without thought. “You always do.”
“You’re one to talk.” Selena threw back thoughtlessly.

It took a second for the two women to realize what they were saying to one another, Selena opting to quickly sip her tea to still her tongue from speaking. “Moving along.” She settled on saying, causing Deanna to resume her pacing for a few steps before the redhead returned her attention back to the seated platinum-blonde.

“Selena…” it was as if, while her attention was on Selena, Deanna’s eyes couldn’t quite meet the older woman’s face. “What if…” she scratched her head nervously. “You think this is about it being Elsianna? Like… another girl?”

Selena’s eyes found Deanna’s, her spine stiffening at the question. She’d be lying if the thought hadn’t crossed her mind at least once. The Grays had always been kind to them, never showing any ill-treatment to their family based on their same-sex marriage. But it was one thing to live with it around you. It was another matter when it was your own family.

She was about to open her mouth to answer when there was a knock on the door, causing Selena to almost spill her tea. Quickly, the Snow Queen placed the cup over a coaster before pushing herself to her feet, following Deanna as the shorter woman made her way to the front door. Selena had caught up to her by the time she had reached for the door handle, standing right behind her as the door opened. Standing before them, dressed in coats and their own set of simple clothes were Dorian and Sybil.

“Hi.” Deanna offered best she could.
“Thank you for seeing us so late.” Sybil tried before her eyes spotted Selena. “You too, Selena.” She added.
“Of course.” Selena nodded as they let the Grays in, offering to take their coats, which was declined.
“We won’t stay too long.” Dorian stated politely. “It’s quite late as it is.”
“Again, we’re very sorry.” Sybil added, which got a nod from her husband.

Before any of them could speak, Selena held up a hand to get everyone’s attention. “Let’s move this to the family room.” She proposed. “The children are sleeping.” Earning a nod from the Grays, she lead them back into the room she and Deanna had been, only this time, she closed the sliding door behind her as she entered last, trying to add as much of a buffer to the conversation as possible.

There in the room, Dorian and Sybil took a seat on the couch, politely declining any tea or drink Deanna offered.

“I am sure you know what we wanted to talk about.” Dorian started, earning a nod from both Frost-women.
“Elsianna and Asuna, I imagine.” Selena answered. “I must admit, it surprised us too.” Seeing Deanna sit in the large, reclining chair, she opted to sit on the arm of it next to her. “We were kind of surprised by it too.” She eyed Deanna. “Elsa didn’t say anything until Asuna arrived at our house that night.”

“We didn’t find out till we found this…” Sybil answered, reaching into her pocket to reveal a folded-up piece of line paper and handing it to Deanna, who unfolded it, allowing Selena to read it over the redhead’s shoulder. On the paper were drawings, some pencil, some pen, some black, some blue. But they all were the same thing. Hearts. Little hearts, big hearts, hearts with names in them, hearts with just initials. ‘E + A’, ‘Elsa + Asuna’, ‘Asuna Frost’, ‘Elsianna Gray’.

“We found that in one of Asuna’s pockets when doing laundry.” Sybil shrugged.

For a moment, Deanna cast a glance at Selena, around the same time Selena moved her head to glance at her. Despite their current separated-status, it was so easy to read the other’s expressions and thoughts with such direct eye-contact.

“What is it that bothers you about this?” Selena asked slowly, looking away from Deanna. “Is it that it’s Elsa?”
A slow exhale came from Dorian. “Yes…”
“But not the way you’re thinking!” Sybil quickly added. “It’s not because she’s a girl.”
“It’s not?” Deanna asked in surprise.

“Of course not!” Dorian stated firmly. “I mean… it is, but it isn’t.”
“I don’t follow.” Deanna shook her head.
“It’s not that.” Sybil assured Deanna. “The alternative lifestyle never bothered us.”
“Actually… we sort of envied you two.”
“Us?!” Selena asked in surprise, earning a nod from Dorian.

“You both seemed so in tune with one another, always standing united. We saw all these little things all these years and it… well, it helped our marriage because…” He stole a glance towards Sybil, who nodded her head. “It gave us something to strive for. That connection.”

“Yeah, well…” Selena laughed a little bitterly, pushing herself off the chair. “Make sure you only read the earlier editions because I royally screwed that up.”

“Selena.” Deanna pressed. “Now’s not the time.” Her tone booked no argument. “We are talking about out daughters.” She returned her gaze to the Grays. “What is it that bothers you?”

The Grays shared a glance for a moment before Sybil spoke. “We’re worried about what they may face once word gets out. Elsa’s already dealt with so much and… there’s the matter of Leslie…”

Selena heard Deanna groan at the name-drop. “Right…” the redhead remarked, recalling the bigoted neighbour. “She’ll have a lot to say.”
“I’m more concerned with what they will face at school.” Dorian stated. “It’s far more open, but children are children.”

The four parents nodded as they sat in the room, silence meeting them for a few minutes.

“You think we should just ex-nay the whole thing?” Dorian finally asked, earning a quick shake of the head from – surprisingly enough – Selena.

“No.” She stated, moving around the room, while in view of the others. “We do that and we’re just hurting them.” She sighed. “And if we tell them ‘no’, they’re just going to find a way to do it anyway. Besides…” she eyed all three of the other parents. “Do they deserve that?” she asked. “This whole thing could be a phase. Even the fact that they are girls.”

“Selena…”

“I’m not saying it will be.” Selena stopped Deanna’s protest. “But we’re trying to predict the future on the feelings of our kids. And those change as they grow up. It happens, Deanna. You know it and I know it. Elsa and Asuna have been raised in loving and very accepting households. So they don’t always see or know the dangers of alternate lifestyles. So, I can see where Dorian and Sybil are coming from. You and I both know it’s not as ‘easy’ as we made it out to be.”

Despite herself, Deanna hushed and gave a short nod of her head.

“But, even so, and despite my own worries, we have to let them go through with this. Whether it lasts a few days or a few months or however long. And if it leads to heartbreak or hurt feelings or anything like we are fearing…” she gave a shrug of her shoulders. “Then we’ll be there for that too. Be there for when they fight, be there for when they can’t get along, be there when they feel against the world, be there when they don’t understand bigotry. All of it…” she sighed, reaching up to swipe at her eyes with her hand. “But if we try and stop it now just because of what-ifs… we’re just telling them that those kinds of feelings are wrong. We’ll just be hurting our children. The very thing we are trying to avoid with this conversation.”

Another bit of silence filled the room, save for the Snow Queen’s exhale. Despite it, however, she could see Dorian and Sybil nodding their heads with small smiles. She could see Deanna looking at her with unshed tears in her eyes.

“I think… we just needed to hear that.” Dorian settled on saying before taking Sybil’s hand. “Come on, dear. We’ve taken up enough of our friends’ time.” Sybil nodded, the four saying nothing except the kind farewells as the Frosts walked the Grays to the door.

Closing the door behind the Grays as they left, Selena released a long exhale, placing her head against the cool wood before turning around. “Well, that wasn’t so bad.” She settled on saying. “Bit emotional, but I think we’re on the same page-“

Her words died in her throat as she suddenly felt Deanna’s lips on hers! All rational thought went black. All understanding fled her mind. It was as if she had been shot and her body was too stunned to respond!

It was over in a second with Deanna pulling away. “I’m sorry.” She whispered, keeping a short distance between her and Selena. “I just was so overwhelmed and –“ she sniffled a little, her emotions calling the shots. “So proud of you. How you handled that.”

“I…” Selena stammered, every part of her trying to will up her guards and numb state to take control, her mantra raging in her mind. “It’s no problem.” She settled on saying, despite her lips still burning from that kiss. “We’ll figure it out.” She added, her hand reaching for the door. “I’ll call in the morning to talk more about this. I fly out to Britain tomorrow afternoon, okay?”

“O…okay…” Deanna nodded her head, as if slowly realizing what she had just done. “I…” she stopped herself as Selena opened the door. “Thank you.” She settled on saying.

“Don’t need to thank me.” Selena shook her head, unable to have eye-contact with her ex. “I’ll call you.”

She managed to get outside and into her car without saying anything else. It was only when she was halfway down the street and turning the corner back to the interstate to get back to NYC that she allowed herself to fully breathe…

And curse her own stupidity…

The Royal Letter

Dear SCW,

Well… are we still going to pretend that we don’t believe? Are we still going to maintain that what I say is not happening? What did I say, SCW Universe? Did I not say that simply ‘calling your shot’ was not going to work this year? That this was SO much bigger than the last few royales of the past years? That this was so much more than simply rolling in out of nowhere and stealing the spot for the main-event of Rise to Greatness?!

I told you this was MY world. I told you all that this was MY path. I told you all that I could not be stopped. I begged anyone to try and stop me. I begged anyone to TRY and knock me off this path!

The “Best in the World” couldn’t do it!
The self-proclaimed “Most Decorated Female Wrestler in SCW” couldn’t do it!

And now? Here I stand with the best chance to make it happen. I stand here with everything in my favor. Everything working exactly as it was meant to! And you STILL don’t want to believe?

At some point, people, you’re just looking like fools. At some point, you’re just some idiots putting your fingers in your ears and going “LA! LA! LA! LA!” over and over again. Because what are you going to do when I come in at spot 40, a woman that has beaten practically EVERY other entrant in some form or fashion? What are you going to do when I, who could take down any of those entrants when the odds are even (just ask the now FORMER world champion), come in fresh while they are tired? Come in focused while they are weary? Come in driven when they are questioning being part of this marathon? And what are you going to do when I toss out the last person and stand there as the winner of the 2025 Taking Hold of the Flame royale? When I point at that Rise to Greatness sign and yell “I TOLD YOU SO!” at the top of my lungs?!

What then, SCW Universe?

Or am I getting ahead of myself? Because it seems that while none of YOU may believe in that fixed-future, there are some who do. Because I’ve already become the target of several entrants. People that need to talk about me. People that need to mention me because I am, now, thanks to CHBK’s meddling, the most dangerous threat to every single person in that royale…

People that need to attack me…

Polly… it didn’t have to be this way. I get that you’re frustrated. Things haven’t been working out for you despite my advice. The glass-ceiling still hangs over your head despite your best efforts. And with your loss at Rebirth at the hands of some new girls trying to do a bad Tatum McGraw impression, I get that it’s all come to a boiling point for you.

Here you have your friend, Colleen, achieving so much – probably where you want to be, I imagine. And me, the person that gave you that advice so many months ago? Who tried to lead you to Trios glory – and had it not been for Blake Mason, we would have had it – now on the cusp of her own great destiny and you feel… left behind.

But there were so many better ways to go about this, Polly. You could have simply challenged me to a match. Could have talked to me about it. Could have done a hundred different things than what you did.

But… you did do what you did… and now I have to do what I have to do…

And Polly, unlike Colleen, I am not going to serve you some empty words on a plate, hold your hand or pet your head and tell you it’s ‘all going to work out’. Yes, Colleen, I am talking to you now.

Personally, Colleen, I am taking no pride in this. I actually wish this match didn’t have to happen. Because I hated what you had to go through last Breakdown. I hated that you were so disrespected. By the SCW Universe, by Kimberly, it’s beyond unreasonable and beyond unfair.

I get it. I live it every day with these people. So does Glory Braddock. You are simply part of a toxic culture that is ungrateful and blind to what is before them. If you don’t agree with everything they say or do, you are the enemy. If you have a difference of opinion, you are vilified. Because you did EVERYTHING THEY wanted you to do – and they still don’t respect you. Kimberly still doesn’t respect you.

I do. I get it. I’ve been where you are for much longer. Which is why I am telling you how tonight, here in England, is going to go.

Because I hate that I have to do it this way.

On paper, this would be a hell of a match. The World-Ruler versus The Underground Champion. Am I right? Face of SCW versus the new face of the Underground division, yes? But… this has become something more than that…

And you have yourself and Polly to blame.

Because you have failed Polly, Colleen. You know why Polly attacked me last Breakdown, Colleen? Why she came after me and no one else? It’s not because of my forty-spot. It’s because my words, my advice, were what she needed. Because I’ve been the voice, the advice, the force that has driven her – and she needs that driving force now. She is looking to me for answers because YOU and Marissa have failed to give her any. Oh yes, you can hold her hand and you can soothe her with empty platitudes, to be sure, Colleen. But I am the one that is giving her solutions. I am the one whose words stay in her head and propel her forwards.

That’s who I am. I am the one that wants to do what is best for Polly. To give her what she needs, not necessarily what she wants.

And what she has chosen – what she has decided to need – is a hatred of me. She needs to hate me, it seems…

And I’m not going to try and talk nice to her like you do. I’m not going to try and plead my case with her or try and get her to see the reality of her situation. No… I’m going to give her so much more than that.

I’m going to give her a reason to hate me, Colleen. I’m going to give her ALL the reasons to hate me.

And that’s why you and I can’t just have this incredible match between a champion of SCW and the best of SCW. It’s simply… not enough.

And I am sorry for that. Testing my skills against yours would have been fun, but this has become so much bigger than that. And I feel sorry for what I am about to do, because what I have to do now is simply take almost everything from you.

To be clear, I’m not after your title. I have no desire for it. Why would I care about that when the World title will soon be mine? No, Colleen, what tonight is is me taking your momentum. Taking your credibility. Taking everything you have amassed these past few months with that Underground title… and just exposing it when I destroy you.

I am… I am sorry for that, Colleen. But this is on Polly. Like I said, this is genuinely hers and your fault. You failing her as a friend and loved one and she failing to think of any other way to go about this. Because tonight, this isn’t about simply beating a woman that’s had a nice bit of good fortune and some big wins. This isn’t about simply beating a champion of SCW anymore.

This is about hurting you. This is about embarrassing you. This is about doing so much damage to you that Polly is driven into the very rage she desires – the hatred for me that she so desperately wants.

Are you seeing it now, Colleen? Are you seeing what I intend to do? I intend to do what you have failed to do and HELP Polly once more. And that will come as I dismantle you in the middle of the ring. As I beat you from pillar to post to the point where the officials, the commentary, the very SCW Universe, and our friend, Polly, are begging me to stop.

But I won’t.

Even when your aches and pains from your match with Kimberly flare up and slow you down, I won’t stop.
Even when the official begs me to stop because you’re already beaten to the ground, I won’t stop.
Even when the commentary begs me to stop because I’ve already proven my point that I cannot be stopped… I won’t stop.
Even Polly comes running out and begs me to stop… I won’t stop.

I won’t stop my assault, Colleen, until there is nothing left but the very hatred Polly desires in her heart. A hatred that she will take to Taking Hold of the Flame and unleash on me.

Because then I will stop it. Just like I will stop you… and every single person that gets in my way. Whether you all want to believe it… or not…

Welcome to MY world, Colleen. Hope you don’t take tonight too personally…

Sincerely,
Selena Michelle Frost
