The 2025 Trios Tournament is going to begin this week. Melinda Braddock knows that every advantage belongs to her team; she and Sutter got on the same team, they have Alex Belmont, the third member of their squad, on the same page, even their first round opponents are questionable to say the very least in the sense that Diamond Steele has been on a losing streak and Dexter Grant doesn’t even want to be a participant in it, leaving Chris Lawler potentially all alone to fend for himself. This is her very first Trios Tournament but she isn’t a stranger to this event. She knows its reputation and the power that comes with the Trios Contract. Her mother, Glory Braddock, is a two time Trios Tournament winner. Melinda’s distant cousin, Kimberly Williams, also won a Trios Tournament. The Third Generation Goddess could use a Trios Contract to catapult herself into stardom. She could have any match of her choice at any time. She could force herself into a championship match of her choice without having to wait, without having to “earn” the opportunity. What’s more is that, with Sutter on her team, winning would essentially mean that The Vision would control two Trios Contracts. The Vision would easily be the most powerful group in SCW.

Before going back to the United States for the beginning of the Trios Tournament, Braddock finds herself in London, England to support her fiance Clyde Sutter. The Assassin is tracking down a lead on who might be stalking him. Melinda is concerned because she hasn’t seen her man act so bothered and upset in a long time. Usually he is calm, cool, and collected. Lately, ever since the stalking began, he has been nervous. Melinda is worried that Clyde might get himself into trouble. The best she can do is be here for him and support him. But she wishes she could do more, she just isn’t sure what she can do. Ordinarily this might be a time when a daughter gets advice from her mother. Melinda Braddock’s relationship with Glory Braddock is strained to say the least. So instead she has decided to meet up with Glory’s husband, Melinda’s step-father Kurt Logan.

The morning air in London carried that cool, damp sharpness that lingered after a night of drizzle, the kind that made the cobblestones gleam and the grass sparkle with tiny beads of moisture. The park in London, England was slowly waking, pigeons cooing from the branches, joggers tracing their usual paths, the distant hum of city traffic softened beneath the trees. On a weathered bench, Melinda Braddock sat with her legs crossed, her posture perfectly poised, yet there was something restless in the way she tapped her manicured fingernail against the side of her coffee cup. She was dressed with the kind of effortless sophistication that made passersby glance twice; cream-colored coat cinched neatly at the waist, dark jeans tucked into ankle boots, a silk scarf the shade of rose-gold framing her face. Her blonde hair, still immaculate despite the humidity, cascaded in soft curls past her shoulders, catching the faint sunlight that struggled through the gray clouds. But beneath the calm exterior, her eyes, sharp blue and endlessly expressive. The park had always been a place of comfort for her when the world of wrestling became too loud, too brutal, too performative. It was one of the few spaces where Melinda could simply be herself, not a prodigy, not The Third Generation Goddess. Just Melinda. And yet, even here, sitting quietly with the distant sound of ducks paddling across the lake, her thoughts refused to slow down.

Kurt Logan sat beside her, the bench creaking faintly beneath his weight. He had that easy, grounded presence that filled any silence without effort. Dressed in a worn leather jacket and faded jeans, he looked every bit the retired fighter who had seen the highs and lows of the business. His black hair was streaked with silver now, and the lines around his eyes spoke of a man who’d laughed and fought hard in equal measure. Despite the years and the distance from the ring, there was still a quiet strength in his posture. He held a paper cup of his own, steam curling into the chill air. He hadn’t said much yet, but he didn’t need to. Melinda knew that look; the patient one, the one he gave before saying something that usually landed harder than a punch. She glanced toward the water, watching the reflection of a passing swan distort in the ripples. Around them, life went on in muted motion. London, vast and alive, seemed a world away from the flashing lights and roaring crowds that defined her career. And yet, that world was always there, waiting, calling her back.

“Thanks for coming to see me, Kurt.” Melinda says quietly Kurt nods his head.

“No need to thank me, Mels.” He answers back. “Your mom and I care for you and will always help you out anytime you need us.”

“You maybe…but mom…” her voice trails off. Kurt sighs.

“Your mom loves you, Mels.” He says. “I know you two have a bit of a strained relationship but…”

“Strained isn’t the right word.” Melinda snaps, interrupting him quickly. “She threw away any claim she had to the Braddock wrestling legacy. That’s why I claimed it for myself and why I will revitalize it.”

“Your mother is doing better.” Kurt points out. “You should give her a chance.”

“I’ll believe it when I see it.” Melinda rolls her eyes. “But that isn’t the only problem I have with her. And I think you know the other problem I have with her.”

“Clyde Sutter.” Kurt says. Melinda nods her head.

“Clyde and I have been dating for a couple of years now. We are going to be married soon. You would think that mom would respect my life choices, especially the choice I made for my future husband.”

“I agree, she should,” Kurt sighs “but you need to understand why your mom has her reservations. You and Clyde have a past…and not a very good one…”

“I know.” Melinda says quietly, nodding her head in agreement. “Do you think I forgot the physical and verbal abuse? Do you think I forgot everything he did to me? That’s not something you forget so easily. But he has changed. He has worked very hard to get the mental, the psychological help he needed to turn his life around.”

“I believe you, Mels.”

“He loves me, Kurt.” Melinda says. “And I understand why mom might have her reservations but why won’t she at least give him a chance?”

Kurt can see the genuine pain in Melinda Braddock’s eyes. She feels as much pain about this tense relationship as Glory does. Kurt leans over and embraces Melinda in a tight hug. After breaking the embrace he looks deep into her eyes.

“I get it, Mels. But tell you what, I’ll talk to her. Does that sound good?”

“Yeah…” Melinda smiles warmly “...it does. Thanks, Kurt.”

“No problem, kiddo.” Kurt pats her on the back. “But I take it you didn’t want to meet me just to gripe about your mother.”

“You’re right.” Melinda shakes her head. “It’s Clyde.”

“Trouble in paradise?” Kurt asks, arching his brow. Melinda again shakes her head.

“Oh no, absolutely not. Me and Clyde are fine. But I am worried about him. He is convinced someone is stalking him.”

“Is it paranoia or is it real?” Kurt asks curiously.

“He is convinced its real and I don’t see any reason not to believe him.” Melinda points out. “His apartment in Charlotte was ransacked. So what do you think?”

“It certainly sounds legit.” Kurt’s facial expression changes, looking nervous. “Are you ok, Mels?”

“Yes.” Melinda nods her head. “But that’s just it, that’s why Clyde is being driven nuts. He’s worried that whoever is going after him might start coming after me.” She sighs and shakes her head. “I want to help him, Kurt, but I don’t know what else I can do.”

“Sometimes all you can do to help those you love is just be there for them.” Kurt says.

“That’s not very helpful.” Melinda sighs out of frustration. Kurt chuckles.

“Sorry, but its the truth. There have been many instances where your mom was in trouble and there wasn’t much I could do to help. All I could do was be there for her and offer my support.”

“So I suppose that’s what I have to do for Clyde?” She asks. Kurt nods his head.

“That’s my advice. Besides, don’t you have something else to focus on? Trios Tournament?”

“Right…” Melinda smiles “...Clyde and I are lucky. We got to be on the same team.”

“Lucky is a good word for it.” Kurt nods his head. “Your mom won two Trios Tournaments and neither of her winning teams included people she particularly liked or cared for. Neither of her winning team had built in tag team chemistry. But your team has at least some built in tag team chemistry. That should give you an advantage that she never had.”

“Way to put the pressure on me, Kurt.” Melinda snickers. “Now you’re making it sound like I have to win.”

“Sorry.” Kurt pats her on the back. “Seriously, though, the Trios Tournament is a rare opportunity to win your way into any type of match you want. That kind of power is unheard of in this business but SCW gives out three of those opportunities each year to the winners of this tournament. Do not take anything for granted. Just because you and Clyde got lucky to be drawn for the same team doesn’t mean you are automatically going to win.”

“I know, Kurt.”

“Do you?” He asks. “I know you and Clyde are certainly on the same page but what about Alex Belmont?”

“Clyde and I had a talk with Belmont.” She smirks. “We’re all on the same page.”

“I hope so, because you need to be on the same page if you want to win this thing.”
