La Pequeña Luz - Fatal Fortunes RP Thread
#2
OOC: Just want to note, just for potential clarity's sake, that Luz is completely unaware of anything that Amelia said in her own promo when she filmed this.
----------------------------------

We open up to a moment that is the very definition of serene. It's a quiet morning, early enough that the sun is just now beginning to rise and bathe the world in its golden glow. We find ourselves on a balcony... a familiar balcony we haven't visited in quite some time. One of the downsides of constantly being on the road, but that's the life of an SCW wrestler. Sitting on this balcony, watching the sun rise in peace, is none other than La Pequeña Luz, once again the SCW United States Champion. We watch as her gaze flickers over to where that title sits, proudly propped up on the table beside her, almost as if she's still in disbelief that the title is hers once again. She can't help but take a deep breath of the early morning air, embracing the calm of this beautiful moment, before she slowly turns her chair around to put her back to the sunrise, letting her silhouette stand out against the morning glow as she smiles an equally radiant smile to us.

“Three-time SCW united States Champion... if you had told me all the way back when I first came to SCW with my now-wife Amelia that I could put that on my resume, I probably wouldn't have believed you. But, 2025 has been a rollercoaster of a year, from watching my third World Tag Title run with Amelia end to the chaos surrounding this very title with Jordan Majors, Asher Hayes, and Deanna Frost. Yeah, I won the right to call myself the undisputed champion coming out of Rise to Greatness, a moment that will forever live rent free in my memories... but I'd be lying if all of that wasn't soured when Meghan Strader beat me for the belt back at Under Attack. If she had genuinely been the better wrestler on that night and spoiled my hard-fought tribute to my late father, then maybe that would've been all there was to it. Maybe I would have simply accepted her claims and turned my attention a little higher, like she seems to believe I've earned.

Truth be told, Under Attack truly solved nothing between us... and neither did Shattered Reality, if I can be completely honest with all of you.”

Luz glances back at the title belt again, her smile slowly fading as she seems to go deep in thought for a moment. We see her eyes flicker towards us, or perhaps behind us, where we know there's a glass sliding door that leads inside the home she and Amelia have built together. Whatever concern has ensnared her thoughts, she tries to push it aside for now and powers onward.

“Meghan, I'm not going to sit here and say things are set and done between us. Yeah, you beat me at Under Attack and took this title from me... but Gavin's interference tainted your win and cast the doubt of whether or not your win was genuine. At Shattered Reality, I reclaimed this title... but I know I didn't pin you, the champion, to achieve that result. Now, I can't say it didn't feel good to give Gavin a reality check and make him understand that whether it's you or me, he's not going to be getting his hands on this belt so long as he wants to rely on bold claims, cheap tricks, and impersonating a certain someone who nobody wants to talk about and rightfully so. But speaking of reality... I don't think it would be genuine to say we're 1-1 against each other Meghan, or even 2-1 if you want to count the tag team match Amelia and I won over you and Veronica before Shattered Reality. As far as I'm concerned, that scoreboard is still blank and will remain so until we can have a match that is truly, genuinely, just you and me, with a definitive outcome.

The problem is... I want to tell you right here and now to name the time and place and I'll see you there with this title hanging in the balance, but there are other obstacles at play right now that, for all I know, could result in this third title reign not lasting for very long, as much as I am bound and determined to prove I can have a run with it that's worthy of everything you claim I've done for this title since I first won it, interim tag or not.

The obvious problem is Damon Cage, who has been waiting patiently ever since he won a U.S. Title shot in KABLAMia and has been confirmed to be getting that shot at the first pay-per-view of this new year. But, there's another, slightly more chaotic problem that, for all I know, could maybe give us that chance if we're lucky enough.

I've got to say, SCW really knows how to kick off a brand new year of action with a bang. I mean, going to Saitama, Japan and then to London, Ontario, Canada for two weeks' worth of Fatal Fortunes? You couldn't ask for a better challenge if you're serious about proving yourself around here, whether you be a brand new face making your SCW debut or a veteran determined to make 2026 your year. It's an event and a challenge I'm all too familiar with, given that during the last two Fatal Fortunes events, I walked in not only as a Tag Team Champion alongside mi amor, but also holding a singles title as well. Being booked to defend each of those, along with a non-title booking... three matches over the course of two weeks is a daunting challenge for anybody to overcome, but it's a challenge I've happily met head-on and prevailed both times.

Almost makes me a little sad that this year, I've got one less title to my name and therefore one less match to keep showing the world just what La Pequeña Luz is all about.”

A sad smile seems to cross Luz's features beneath her mask. She knows this event has presented her with massive challenges the past few years, but having one less match this time around doesn't change the fact that she's ready to step up to the plate and give it all that she's got once again.

“You know, some might say I have a little bit of an advantage, given that I at least know I'll have one match where I need to defend this title and can prepare for it. The thing is... can I really? Sure, I know I'm defending the U.S. Championship against someone who's not going to know they're my challenger until moments beforehand, but I'm just as in the dark about who will be given that chance to step up and show me what they've got. Maybe Damon Cage's name is in the pool and he and I won't have to wait until the first pay-per-view of this brand new year to decide who deserves this title more. As I said, maybe Meghan and I will get to meet again sooner rather than later. Maybe I'll find myself dancing with a brand new face looking to make a major impact on their very first night here, or another champion in their non-title booking hoping to become a double champion at my expense.

The possibility also exists that I could find myself standing across the ring from the woman I love, ready to tear the house down and show all of you just why The Light In The Darkness have both earned their right to be considered among the best SCW has to offer.

It's not just the question of who I could be facing, either. You never know what kind of match could await you, either. I mean, two Fatal Fortunes ago I defended the TV Title in a match where I had to retrieve it from a pole, and The Light In The Darkness had to defend the Tag Titles in a Dumpster Match. Last time I defended this title in a triple threat match, and then Ames and I had to survive a Clockwork Orange House of Fun Deathmatch to retain our tag team gold. I could find myself in a match that feels tailor made for someone like me, or a match that favors my opponent more, or even something entirely new that no one's ever seen before.

That's the fun of Fatal Fortunes... just because I know I have to defend this title doesn't change the fact that I'm truly on equal footing with everybody else, because I will never be fully prepared for whatever draw awaits me until that bell rings. If I've proven anything in the past few years, though, it's that I know how to adapt to whatever is thrown my way to put on the best possible match I can, because I owe each and every one of you that much at the very least. You fans, and all the people who support me, are what drive me, fuel me, push me to greater and greater heights. That's why I know I can walk into Fatal Fortunes and, win or lose, know I can walk away having given you everything I've got.

Of course... ideally, I'd like to be able to win and keep proving myself. That's what it means to be a professional wrestler, after all, to keep pushing yourself farther and climbing the ranks. I know that's what Amelia will be bound and determined to prove to kick off this new year, and while I happily believe in her and know she's going to really come into her own this year, what kind of wife would I be if I couldn't keep up with her hard work?”

A flicker of doubt crosses Luz's features for a moment, as if there's something she knows that we don't and it's clearly eating away at her, but she manages to shake it off. Another deep breath, another embrace of this beautiful dawn, and she manages to put on that familiar smile. It's not hard to tell it's a little more forced this time, but Luz continues to power ahead all the same.

“I only ask for one thing of whoever I meet in that ring come Fatal Fortunes, whether my title is on the line or I'm facing somebody just for bragging rights. All I ask is that you give me your best... if I'm going to prove I'm the better wrestler on that night, in either scenario, I want to know I overcame your all to do it so that neither one of us leaves any regrets in that ring. That's the least those fans deserve for the hard-earned money they devote to watching us embrace this enjoyable chaos, and that's all I could ever ask for because I don't plan on holding back, no matter who you are or what kind of dance we'll be doing.

2026 is a brand new year for SCW, and for many of us, this is going to be a year where we can either put up or shut up. I don't know about any of you, but I think my wife would agree with me that this is going to be a year where she and I not only put up, but we also soar higher than we ever have before and cement, once and for all, that we are the elite-caliber wrestlers everyone wants to believe that we are. It's one thing to be seen in such high regard, it's another thing entirely to prove it, and make no mistake... even though I'm the U.S. Champion right now, I'm hungrier than I've ever been, and I know my wife is right there with me. Maybe this will be a year where The Light In The Darkness returns to tag team action and decides to teach a certain pair of twin terrors not to buy too much into their own hype, or maybe this year will see me push myself into the realm of truly being considered one of the greatest United States Champions of all time while Amelia finally rises like I know she can to stand atop the tallest mountain here and call herself World Champion.

No matter what awaits us, one thing is for sure... it all starts at Fatal Fortunes.”

Luz's grin feels more genuine now as she slowly stands up, grabbing the U.S. Title and holding it high against the dawn behind her, almost posing like a silhouette in triumph. The current height of the sun that creates her silhouette does hide something from us, though... a glance past us, a look of concern, of worry... a hope that this year truly will be better than the last, and not just for her. No matter what, though, she knows she needs to be on her A-game if she's going to make it out of Fatal Fortunes as a champion still, and that's exactly what she intends to do.
