The Fans Choice edition of SCW Breakdown is coming up and Glory Braddock, after a month of sitting on the sidelines and watching from afar, gets back into action. Coming off of her victory over Xander Valentine, one she has long wanted, now she might end up giving another former foe something he has wanted; namely, Kemal Yilmaz in an Ultimate Submissions Match. Then again, that entirely depends upon what the fans say. Despite what the CEO Frank might think, despite what Kemal might demand, and even despite what Glory Braddock herself may want, the decision will be up to the fans. Will they finally give Kemal of the European Fiery Nation what he wants, Glory Braddock in an ultimate submissions match? Or will it be a Flag Match? Or will it be an I Quit Match?
Either the Submissions Match or the I Quit Match would fall into Glory Braddock’s territory. Her submissions skillset could easily get her enough submissions to defeat Kemal within the thirty minute time period or even get him to utter those two words any wrestler would hate to have to say, namely I Quit. The Flag Match would be the wild card as The British Bombshell hasn’t been in a Flag Match. The match itself is brutally simple; just take your nation’s flag and place it atop the ring post. Glory’s father, the late Glenn Braddock, would have loved a good flag match, seeing as how super prideful he was at being English and a British citizen. That hyper nationalism passed over The British Bombshell. Her primary objective is defeating Kemal Yilmaz and putting him in the rearview mirror once and for all. If that means finally giving him the match he wants, that he has been whining about for over a year, then perhaps she should just hope and pray the fans actually give him that ultimate submissions match so that he will no longer have anything to cry about? Regardless, it is ultimately up to the fans and Braddock knows that she must be prepared for anything, whether she wants it or not.
It has also been over a month since a long time friend of the Braddock family had arrived in Miami, Florida to assist The British Bombshell with some of her schedules, her agendas, and her business situations. Catalina De Luca, truthfully, is more of an acquaintance now than a true friend, as the two haven’t had contact with one another in years until just recently. Years ago their friendship was innocent, not stained by the truth behind the secret alliance of their two families. Glenn Braddock, a famous wrestler beloved in Europe with a good reputation, and the De Luca family, working for organized crime who specifically tried to fix sports for gambling purposes. The Braddock family reputation earned Glenn good standing with the De Luca’s and Glenn used that reputation to specifically request that they do not get involved with his matches. He wanted to earn his way on his own merit. The mob surprisingly obliged. Catalina De Luca wants to get as far away from her family’s criminal life as possible. So to repay a family favor, and reconnect with an old friend, Glory flew Catalina to Miami and is going to hire her to work for The British Bombshell as her chief of staff, to arrange meetings, scheduling, and handle other issues regarding her company, so that Glory herself can focus on the one thing she is most passionate about; professional wrestling.
The café they sat in that afternoon rested along a quieter street a few blocks removed from the louder tourist sections of the city. Large front windows let sunlight spill across the interior, turning the wooden floors a warm amber beneath the late afternoon glow. The café was neither trendy nor overly polished. It had the comfortable atmosphere of a place that people returned to regularly rather than simply photographed and forgot. The scent of coffee lingered thickly in the air, mixed with baked bread and citrus from freshly cut fruit behind the counter. A low hum of conversation drifted throughout the room, blending with the occasional hiss of steaming milk and the soft clink of ceramic cups being set onto tables. Ceiling fans rotated lazily overhead, stirring the cool air just enough to keep the heat outside from creeping too far indoors.
Glory sat near the window in a booth upholstered in dark green leather that had softened slightly with age. One arm rested along the back of the seat while the other circled loosely around a coffee mug that had long since cooled enough to drink comfortably. She wore dark jeans and a fitted navy T shirt beneath a lightweight gray overshirt left unbuttoned. The sleeves had been rolled halfway up her forearms in a habit that seemed automatic. Her clothing carried the same grounded simplicity she always favored, practical without appearing careless. Her long blonde hair fell loose today rather than tied back, brushing against her shoulders and catching flashes of sunlight from the nearby window.
Across from her sat Catalina. She looked perfectly at ease within the soft warmth of the café, as though she belonged in spaces designed for lingering afternoons and slow conversation. Today she wore a flowing blouse in a pale cream color tucked neatly into a high waisted skirt the shade of deep olive green. The fabric moved softly whenever she shifted in her seat, elegant without appearing overly formal. A delicate gold necklace rested against her collarbone, subtle enough that it only caught attention when the sunlight struck it directly. Her dark Sicilian features seemed even more striking in the afternoon light. Her hair fell in glossy waves over one shoulder, carefully styled without looking rigid. Her makeup was understated but precise, emphasizing her eyes and the natural warmth in her complexion. A slim bracelet circled one wrist, glinting faintly whenever she lifted her cup.
“You have no idea how much you are helping me, Glory!”
“Me helping you?” Glory chuckles. “Mate, you are helping me.”
“Oh come on, really? You are a wealthy owner of a successful company. You have three children who love you. A husband who loves you. You have it all, babe.”
“It isn’t all it cracks up to be, seriously,” Glory sighs “and my family situation isn’t that great right now.”
“Oh I’m sorry to hear about that, Glory.” Catalina says. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“Not really, Cat.” She shakes her head. “There’s no need to bother you with my personal problems.”
“That’s fair.” Catalina, or Cat for short as she prefers, sips her coffee from the cup. “Still, you are a very lucky person, aren’t you? You are a famous professional wrestler, just like your father. He must be proud.”
The British Bombshell shifts uncomfortably in the booth after Catalina mentions Glenn Braddock, Glory’s late father. There is an awkward silence, which indicates to Cat that something must be wrong. Finally, after several awkward moments, Glory breaks the silence.
“Dad, well,” she sighs “his career ended long before he wanted it to…”
“Really?”
“Yes,” she nods her head “it was a severe back injury. Doctors were able to stitch him up enough so he could move around, have a decent quality of life, and even work with the next generation of wrestlers, but as far as actively competing himself?” Glory shakes her head. “That was out of the question. And then a decade later he died.”
“Oh no!” Catalina gasps, holding her hand over her mouth, clearly looking shocked. “I had no idea he was gone! I’m…I’m so sorry…”
“It’s ok.” Glory forces a smile onto her face. “I’m still here to carry on the Braddock legacy as best I can.” She motions to Catalina. “What about you? What have you been up to since we last saw one another, what, nearly two decades ago?”
“Yes, almost two decades.” Cat nods her head, smiling warmly. “And my path was kinda similar to yours.”
“Oh?”
“You followed your dad into the family business and, well, my father wanted me to get into the family business.”
“Really?” Glory arches her brow out of surprise. “I’m kind of surprised to hear that. I thought old time mafia types were sort of traditional, they wanted to keep the men in the family business, not the women.”
“People and organizations can change, even organized crime.” Catalina smirks.
“And I take it you wanted nothing to do with your ‘family business’, right?”
“No way.” Catalina shakes her head. “Growing up I saw firsthand how dangerous, how deadly that life can be. I want nothing to do with it. I did not want to risk my life and I did not want to be in a position where I might have to take a life. I needed to get away, Glory, so you bringing me here to Miami, far away from my family’s criminal organization, that more than makes up for any favor owed.”
“Well I am just happy to see you again, Cat.” Glory smiles warmly. “And I want you to know I am doing this as a friend, not just because of some bloody mafia debt or crap like that.”
“That’s great to hear,” she nods her head “but, uh, I heard you actually dipped your toes in organized crime once upon a time. Is that true?”
Braddock is stunned into silence. She isn’t sure how Cataline knew of this; then again, Catalina comes from a crime family, who knows how many possible connections she may have? Glory briefly is having second thoughts about involving Catalina in her affairs. Is she getting too close to the mob again? It’s too late to back out now, though. Besides, Glory believes that Catalina is sincere about wanting out of the criminal lifestyle.
“I hate to admit it but,” she nods her head “yeah, I was involved briefly.”
“Oh, do tell!”
“If you insist” Glory sighs. “The company I bought, its founder, Matthew Alan, had his own criminal ties and he was using them, as well as bribing the board of directors, all to undermine me and try to cause me to lose the company. I nearly did, in fact.”
“What happened?”
“I panicked.” Glory admits. “I panicked and reached out to a friend of my own who also had criminal ties. She kept Matthew Alan out of my business and she kept the board of directors in check. But there’s more…”
“Nice.” Catalina smirks. “This is getting juicy.”
“I got close to someone, someone who grew near and dear to my heart. She helped mentor me, taught me how to be ruthless and cutthroat in the corporate world. But in the process I became someone I hated. I wasn’t proud of the things I had done.” Glory points to Cat. “That’s why I want you here.”
“Oh?”
“I want you to insulate me from all of the outside noise, especially the garbage and the politics coming from within my company. You will speak for me, as my representative, as my chief of staff, because if I have to start dealing with that stuff again I fear who…or what…I might become. I want to just be Glory Braddock the wrestler, not the corporate cutthroat.”
“So you want me to…run the company?”
“Sort of but not quite.” Glory says. “Just keep things running the way I want them to, keep everyone in line, but do NOT use your criminal connections or influence. I want this to be on the up and up.”
“Oh absolutely.” Cat nods her head enthusiastically. “Like I said, I don’t want to be involved in crime anyway. So if I can help you out in an honest way, if I can do something to help you the right way, I’m more than happy to do it.”
“Excellent.” Glory remarks, with a smile on her face. “Then it’s settled. You will be my chief of staff and as a result yo u will be dealing with my company a great deal, making sure its run the way I want it to be run.”
“That sounds great, Glory,” Catalina sips coffee from her cup “but can I ask for one other favor?”
“What’s that, mate?”
“Following father around from country to country all over Europe watching the wrestling matches, especially your own father’s wrestling matches, it made me into a fan.”
“Seriously?” Glory snickers. “You, a wrestling fan?”
“Yep.” She nods her head. “And I would love it if you could help me get my foot in the door of professional wrestling.”
“Do you even know what you want to do, Cat?”
“That’s where you come in.” She says beaming. “You know everything there is to know about wrestling, seeing as you have DONE it all. You can show me how to be a manager, how to be a promoter, or maybe you could train me and I can be a wrestler. Just help me get my foot in the door, that’s all I ask.”
“Since you’re willing to help me, I will be more than happy to help you.” Glory grins from ear to ear.
“Here’s to the start of a beautiful working relationship!” Catalina holds up her cup for a toast.
“And to a renewed friendship.” Glory answers back.
