INNER THOUGHTS – OFF CAMERA (SHAUN)
Shocks and surprises, Gavin Taylor in cannot do anything by himself shocker. Once beaten, and soundly beaten might I had the Goon Squad attack, and attempt to make their mark. I mean, they didn’t and were sent back to where they came. No one was particularly surprised by what happened next, and that is why after two decades in this business, Gavin Taylor has amounted to nothing other than wordy cliches. I don’t know why everyone panders to Frank’s every whim, when it was oh so very easy to tell him no., I don’t know why everyone seems intent on having that stain on their name, even those that I thought better of. The worst part? Frank Delarosso doesn’t guarantee success, far from it. Those talented enough like Amelia will always rise to the top anyway. Just like Gavin Taylor, Frank is nothing more than a façade. A pale shadow in comparison with the true legendary owners of this place. But what Gavin, Frank and everyone else don’t understand, this is only the start. For too long, groups like theirs have had free reign. For too long, individuals like Gavin Taylor have gotten away with murder. This business has given my family everything, but it has also been taken away. But this industry MUST endure, regardless, and we are the ones who can make that happen. And ensure that when our legacy is decided, we are on the side of what was right. The way it was always supposed to be. The way the Icon always knew it would be.
PREVIOUSLY – OFF CAMERA
(Shaun and Owen had been all geared up to arrive at the agreed place when another text had landed on Shaun’s phone, changing the address but keeping the same time. It seemed strange, but all of this seemed strange, as they tried to traverse the situation without really understanding what was going on. Right now, it was only about getting Dorothea back, so although they knew they could be heading into a trap, they were more than willing to take the risk. Shaun indicates, as they pull into an industrial estate, a chain of warehouses down the right-hand side, all numbered.)
Shaun: This is the place I reckon
Owen: Looks quiet… not sure if that’s good or bad.
Shaun: It’s bad if they are not here and it’s a wild goose chase.
(The car comes to a halt, but as Shaun is about to kill the engine, a set of lights flash further down the estate.)
Shaun: Reckon that’s them, shall I get closer
Owen: Nah, let’s get out here and walk.
(Shaun nods, stopping the engine and the two of them slowly getting out the car, surveying the landscape. It certainly didn’t seem like there were a lot of people hanging around in wait, but if there were, they probably wouldn’t know. They walk towards the car, and as they get closer, they see only someone at the driver’s side. As they then get within a couple of feet of the car, the warehouse adjacent door starts to whirr and slowly open, revealing the mid-size storage space within.)
Owen: Reckon they want us to go in?
Shaun: Seems so, shall we?
Owen: After you.
(They step into space and walk forwards probably about six feet, before the door behind them starts to close again, Shaun and Owen looking at each other, but standing their ground regardless. The door then shuts completely, a series of lights switching on, leaving a dark space at the end of the room. From that darkness, Drew Bryant walks out, Kai walking by his side. There certainly didn’t seem to be anyone else, but still, they remain on their guard. Just in case. Drew and Kai step closer, until they are finally maybe ten feet away. Kai exudes the same arrogance as always, but Drew on the other hand seems nervous.)
Shaun: Just a little bit dramatic. This isn’t an episode of the Gentleman you know.
Owen: That’s a good series… recommend it.
Kai: We just must be careful, that’s all. We apologize for the late address change, but I assure you it was necessary. Considering.
Shaun: Honestly, I don’t care. I’m just here to get my daughter back.
Kai: And you’ll get her back Shaun; you have my word. But I, sorry we will need certain assurances, before we can make that happen. You have to understand that Drew and I have stuck our neck on the line, and that will need to be taken into consideration.
(Shaun turns to Owen, obviously even more confused that he was at the get go.)
Owen: How’s about you stop talking in riddles and tell us what you want so we can get out of here?
Drew: We will…
Shaun: Oh, he speaks
Drew: I know you’re angry at me Shaun, but Kai and I are trying to do the right thing.
Owen: I think it’s a bit late for that don’t you?
Shaun: Look, I don’t want to spend anymore time here than I have to, so how’s about the two of you tell us what you want, give my back my daughter and we will be on our way. Assuming Dorothea is here.
(Kai steps forwards, not threateningly, but with an intent that showed he didn’t want to be heard.)
Kai: When this all started, Drew and I were promised a lot of money, and being honest to you, we both need it. Everyone knows Shaun Cruze, and everyone knows that you had plenty of money to go around… we wanted some of that, and that’s what was on offer. What you must understand, however, is that to our boss. The money wasn’t enough. He got increasingly agitated by you, and your ability to bounce back, even when we had taken everything from you. And his plans got increasingly dangerous. Believe me, he doesn’t care what happens to him, but Drew and I were not going to be taken down with him. And so, we changed the location for the meeting, he doesn’t know we are here. Hence the need for secrecy.
Shaun: But if he is as dangerous as you say…
Kai: Shaun, the moment this is done, Drew and I are getting as far from Los Angeles as we possibly can, and we are never coming back. It’s going to be hard enough staying out of his way, so we certainly don’t need the cops to try to trace us as well.
Owen: Hold on, let me just get one thing straight. You’ve both had a crisis of conscience and now you don’t want us to turn you in?
Kai: In exchange for your daughter Shaun. Yes.
(Shaun ponders it for a while, taking in all the information he has been given so far, and he left with one question that stands out above all others.)
Shaun: So… who is he?
(Drew closes his eyes, still the nervous one, that question potentially making his anxiety even worse. Kai once again takes the lead, obviously the one who was making all the decisions.)
Kai: Shaun, I’d love to tell you, but truthfully, it’s better you don’t know. Let’s just say it’s someone who doesn’t like you, or your family and leave it at that.
Shaun: So, just to make sure I’ve got this right. We don’t tell the police everything we know, and you two run away like cowards, leaving us to deal with whoever this mystery man might be.
Kai: It sounds very one sided granted… but you do get your daughter back.
(Shaun is about to speak when Owen interjects.)
Owen: Hold on though, how do we know you have Dorothea?
(Kai nods towards the shadows, and a man walks out with what seems to be Dorothea, a hood over her head. As he reaches them, Kai pulls off the hood, confirming that it is indeed Shaun’s daughter.)
Dorothea: DADDY!!!
(Shaun tries not to react, although right now he felt like he could take whoever else was lurking in the shadows.)
Shaun: You have a deal
(Owen turns to Shaun, realizing what Shaun was doing. Willing to let them off the hook, if his daughter was safe.)
Kai: You mean it? This will be the last time you see either of us.
Shaun: You have my word.
(Kai nods to the guy, who releases Dorothea who immediately runs into Shaun’s arms.)
Kai: It’s done. We are done.
Drew: I’m sorry it came to this Shaun, if I’d have known…
Owen: You would still have been a greedy fucker.
Shaun: Let’s get out of here.
(Shaun scoops Dorothea up into his arms, and without looking back ends towards the warehouse entrance that slowly starts to open, the three of them stepping outside, half expecting to be stopped. They make haste towards their car, Shaun strapping Dorothea in, and climbing in the back with her, Owen taking the wheel.)
Owen: You sure about this Shaun… we could shop them in right now.
Shaun: No, I gave my word, let’s go.
Owen: You’re a better man than me
(Owen guns the engine and turns the car, heading out of the industrial estate and towards Shaun’s house. Shaun is already on the phone to Angyalka, who almost immediately picks up the phone.)
Angyalka: You got her?
Shaun: I’ve got her.
(The outpouring of emotion on the other end of the line is something Shaun can associate with, but although his daughter was safe, he wasn’t stupid. He knew that there was a man out there right now that would only just be finding out that he had been betrayed. This wasn’t over by a long shot, but this was a win regardless. And for now, he’d take it and think about what happened next tomorrow.
INNER THOUGHTS – OFF CAMERA (OWEN)
Well… look at this, someone narrating my inner thoughts while I find myself back in a place I promised I would never return to. I’m NOT back. Well, not in that sense anyway. I said I didn’t need to wrestle anymore, and I wanted to be there for my family, and that’s exactly what I am doing, but this time my extended family. Shaun and Bekah asked for my help, to be their eyes and ears on the ground, and that is my purpose. Only one thing is left to prove. Jennifer has been as amazing as always; my little boy is every bit my reason for doing this. Ultimately, this is me giving back to a place that gave me so much when I first stepping into SCW at eighteen years old. Where did that time go? For sure, I’ve got no problem throwing hands if required, but I’d call myself nothing more than an insurance policy, to make sure all of this goes down the right way, and wrongs firmly right. I don’t need to explain it any more than that. Legacy is within our grasp, and when we claim it as our own, I want to be there for that moment when everything we have ever endured is made truly worth it. Understand, don’t, it doesn’t matter. Just know that eventually, you will. You will understand why the Cruze family IS wrestling’s Legacy. Now and forever.
PREVIOUSLY – OFF CAMERA
(As Shaun and Owen were jubilant, at least for now, on the other side of the city, within the confines of the police precinct, The Chief was finally starting to understand that there was a mole within his own staff. Too much had been known about Shaun and Angyalka’s heartache, and he had led him to believe that within his office, someone was feeding out information. If there was something he hated more than anything it was disloyalty, and although he understood the irony after screwing Shaun over, having a treacherous officer within the precinct was a huge problem for him.)
Chief Wilson: There’s gotta be something around here
(His deputy shrugs his shoulders.)
Deputy Skipper: There’s nothing chief; we’ve turned this place upside down and found nothing, no bugs, no wiretaps. It’s got to be one of the guys, must be someone listening in.
Chief Wilson: I can’t believe any of them would do that.
Deputy Skipper: It’s the only option that makes sense.
Chief Wilson: This is a nightmare Skip… if the public hear of this, or worst still the Cruze family, my career is over.
Deputy Skipper: Sit down Boss, let’s think through. What’s the options?
Chief Wilson: Who knew about the Cruze case?
Deputy Skipper: That doesn’t narrow it down, that’s almost everyone including me.
Chief Wilson: And who knows Chris Clay?
Deputy Skipper: Again, he’s done so much work for us in the past, so almost everybody
Chief Wilson: This is ridiculous…
Deputy Skipper: OK, let’s look at it differently. What if there was a bug or something, but it’s been removed. Who has access to your office?
Chief Wilson: That’s actually not a bad shout. There’s me, you, Carter and Knowles.
Deputy Skipper: Shall I get them in?
Chief Wilson: No, not yet… I don’t want to accuse anyone if I’m not certain.
(A knock is heard at the door, Wilson motioning for him to enter which he does.)
Chief Wilson: Dobbs, can I help you?
Dobbs: Err, I was just wondering if Carter would be in soon as he’s supposed to be taking over my shift.
Deputy Skipper: He’s not already in?
Dobbs: No, and I’ve called his mobile and he isn’t answering.
Chief Wilson: OK Dobbs, you get off, I’ll sort it out.
Dobbs: You are sure? I don’t mind stopping an hour if needed.
Chief Wilson: No, all good… go take care of Marcie, what is she now six months in?
Dobbs: Seven, two to go
Chief Wilson: Excellent, well off you go.
(Once he has left, Wilson turns to Skipper.)
Chief Wilson: What do you think?
Deputy Skipper: I don’t know, could be legit
Chief Wilson: Or he’s got out of dodge?
Deputy Skipper: I’ll get the car.
(It may have been a wild goose chase, but that would make it highly coincidental. Either way, he felt closer to finding out exactly what was going on.)
THIRTY MINUTES LATER
(Wilson and Skipper pull up outside the house they knew to be Sergeant Carter’s, the two of them immediately clocking that his car is no longer in the driveway. They get out the car, both of them looking up and down the street, knowing that the curtain twitchers would already be wondering what was going on. They both make their way up the driveway and to the porch, Skipper knocking heavily on the door to make sure that anyone inside would hear, after waiting for a few moments, there is no reply.)
Skipper: Could have nipped out?
Chief Wilson: Without the car… Carter is one of the laziest sons of a bitches I know.
(Skipper tries the door, but predictably it doesn’t open.)
Skipper: I can kick it down, your call. Or wait for a warrant?
Chief Wilson: Do it
(Skipper nods and with one heavy boot the door flies open, Skipper going to his holster and pulling his gun.)
Chief Wilson: Only if we must… clear?
Skipper: Sure
(They split up, one taking the living room, while another investigates the kitchen, with no sign of Officer Carter. They meet back at the stairs.)
Skipper: I’ve got a ready bad feeling this isn’t going to end well
(Chief Wilson motions towards the stairs, and the two of them start to ascend, arriving at the landing where two bedrooms and the bathroom doors are wide open, and seemingly with no one there. One bedroom however has the door closed, and the two of them take a breath, Wilson slowly opening the door as Skipper has his hands on the trigger. They step inside, but to both of their reliefs there is no one inside, but the closet doors are wide open, revealing that they have been emptied. A quick scan around the room shows normal things such as battery chargers are also gone.)
Chief Wilson: Well, I think we at least have our mole, even if we don’t know where he is.
Skipper: I never trusted that asshole… you want me to call it in?
Chief Wilson: Yeah…
(Both of their eyes widen as a car engine starts outside. Both head to the window, just in time to see Carter racing off the driveway and down the street.)
Chief Wilson: FUCK!!!
(Skipper is already on his walkie.)
Skipper: Yeah, its Skipper… I need an APB out for registration seven Romeo Sierra Victor Zero Seven Two… driver is Officer Carter and could be dangerous.
(Chief Wilson is already looking over the place, hoping to find some semblance of a clue. He sits on the edge in almost resignation, that this was happening on his watch.)
Chief Wilson: You know he’s getting out the state off the back of some bribe, don’t you?
Skipper: I’d say that’s likely yeah
Chief Wilson: I want this place turned over and inside out. Phone records, emails, bank statements I want everything and we don’t stop until that son of a bitch is caught.
Skipper: Yes Chief… what you going to do?
Chief Wilson: The only thing I can do Peter… offer my resignation to the commissioner
Skipper: You don’t have to do that boss.
Chief Wilson: I do, because if I don’t and this all comes out… my situation is going to be a hell of a lot worse. I’d rather get out before I’m pushed. Can you get a squad car to come and get you?
Skipper: Sure, but…
Chief Wilson: I’ve made up my mind
(Skipper nods as Wilson gets to his feet, making his way downstairs. This had been one mess up after another, starting with not listening to Shaun, through using Chris Clay, and now, letting the probable mole escape from under his nose… not withstanding the fact he allowed a mole in the first place. He’d had a good career, and maybe, just maybe he’d escape with his pension, that was the hope anyway. He reaches the car, the radio going off.)
“Deputy Skipper… Chief Wilson…”
Chief Wilson: This is Wilson, go ahead.
“I thought you should know that patrol just found five dead bodies at an industrial estate downtown. Looks like an execution.”
Chief Wilson: Jesus Christ… send me the address.
“Will do… one more thing though.”
Chief Wilson: Go ahead.
“Not confirmed… but one of the deceased is believed to be Drew Bryant.”
(Wilson closes his eyes, sure that his day couldn’t really have gotten any worse but here it was, doing precisely that. If he wasn’t sure before, now he knew he had no choice. This shit show was 100% on him. And because of him, so many people had paid the price.)
“Chief?”
Chief Wilson: I’m on my way.
INNER THOUGHTS – OFF CAMERA (BEKAH)
There is no getting away from it, some people are just stupid. That’s not just a wrestling thing, that is a real-world thing. Some just cannot understand the reasonings. Freddie did not LISTEN to reason and look how that panned out. Freddie looks incapable, the EFN looks incompetent, and Frank… well Frank is left waving his penis in the wind as per. Thing is, I was never some immature kid trying to make their way in business. I was always a second-generation competitor looking to make a name for HERSELF. Why was that so hard to understand. My first match here, and I outmatched someone that has been here for THREE years. Now, I walk into Apocalypse alongside Shaun to put EFN to the sword once again. I didn’t come here to fight wars, but that’s a Cruze trademark, isn’t it? And perhaps the reason why we all exist. To do what’s right.
It was claimed I don’t want to be here, without anyone even trying to understand WHY I am here. The focus, as always, was on me trying to make a quick buck off my father’s success. Laughable. Not all matches will be as simple as Breakdown, I know that. I know fully because I’m NOT stupid, there are many bigger challenges to come. My only hope is that in time, people understand that I am the real deal, and the more experience comes my way, the further I will go. This is for my family, for my father. This is mostly for my daughter, to give her the life I never had. This is for Legacy, the final hour, the final act. Iconic.
Shocks and surprises, Gavin Taylor in cannot do anything by himself shocker. Once beaten, and soundly beaten might I had the Goon Squad attack, and attempt to make their mark.
Iconic.
