Is there such a thing as a heel anymore?

I think it's less "face and heel" and more the types of faces and heels that blend together.

Everyone wants to be the "badass face who walks to the beat of his own drum, who the fans love for it". No one wants to be the "white meat, red white and blue face who follows the rule and is generally a good person" because of the way wrestling has gone in the last 20 years. Those faces don't appeal to people as faces. The badass does, but with the badass, you run the risk of drifting into heel territory.

Likewise with the heels, everyone wants to be the "cool heel that fans like because he's cool, even if he's supposed to be the bad guy", and no one wants to be the "chickenshit heel who has to cheat to win his matches". Again, the last 20 years plays into this.

Basically, most of the alignments tend to drift to where we are in the middle of the road, with the true good and bad off to the side and rarely dabbled within. I do like the D&D alignment setup though... could liven things up and help determine where our needs actually are.
