Light in the Darkness vs. Kelsai Adamson & Chance Owens
#5
There is just something about that first cup of coffee in the morning isn’t there? Some people just cannot start their day without it. Now we can’t say for sure that Chance Owens is among those people, but on this particular morning, sitting on his porch in the dark, it’s just Chance by himself, alone with his thoughts and the perfect cup of coffee. Who knows what those thoughts might be either, but at 6 o’clock in the morning dressed in a white tank undershirt, light blue pajama bottoms, and brown slippers you can be sure that the mind of this man was working overtime about something despite looking like he had just woken up in the morning. Truth be told, he had woken up at 2:06 am almost a full four hours earlier and he never went back to sleep after that. He was probably feeling fortunate this morning after going to bed at 11pm the night before because sleeping three hours a night was a luxury for Chance.
You want to know one thing that he probably wasn’t thinking about at this time however? That would be the pink Toyota 4 runner that had just parked in his driveway with the driver killing the engine as she quickly stepped outside shutting her door in the process while Chance just looked on, shaking his head.
“Good morning, Kelsai.”
Barely even able to register what Chance said Kelsai Adamson was rummaging in the back of her SUV.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, we don’t even have time for that, Chance.”
“We don’t have time to say good morning in the morning?”
Evidently finding what she was spending time searching for, Kelsai looks pleased as she heads toward the porch where Chance awaits, a boombox on her arm and a focused look on her face.
“Do you realize that when we get in the ring with La Pequena Luz and Amelia Blythe that will be the first time that we have ever done anything together?”
Chance had actually thought about exactly that for a fair amount of time, but he enjoys messing with Kelsai more, especially when she has a single minded focus like she seemed to have this morning.
“You know, now that you mention it, I guess that is true Kelsai. Unless you count talking like we are right now”
“I don’t”
Chance feints hurt feelings.
“And to think, I really enjoy talking to you…sometimes.”
“Very funny, Mister. I think that if we don’t learn how to do something together before that match, Luz and Blythe are going to eat us alive. They know each other so well, it’s scary to even think about.”
“The key for us is NOT to think about that thought. We need to concentrate on ourselves, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Point taken, but we should learn how to do something together, wouldn’t you think?”
“I suppose it’s not a bad idea, though I can’t figure why we haven’t done something together before at this point. Seems a little overdue if you ask me.”
As she got onto the porch, Kelsai stopped right in front of Chance, her face slowly breaking into a wide grin.
“Right, so why don’t we change that, Chance?”
“Well, I would ask what you have in mind, but I am guessing that the boombox on your shoulder is not just there for decoration.”
“Right again, partner. You are on fire this morning.”
Chance and Kelsai have discussed this before and they are often in sync when it comes to their thinking.
“So, we are going to a karaoke contest at 6 o’clock in the morning out in the dark?”
“And just like that, the fire is out.”
“Well that is really disappointing, because I wanted to hear you sing, partner.”
I will tell you what, if the two of us manage somehow to win in our first match together against a much more experienced opponent, I will sing for you, just for you after the match, does that sound good?”
“Sure. When we win in our debut match as a team, you are going to sign for me, but only me.”
“Fine. For now though, let’s focus on the real reason that I drove several states away to surprise you, because sir I have thought about this a lot, and I think in the immortal words of David Bowie….Let’s Dance.”
“Dance?”
“Yes, you do know how, right?”
Chance is actually a very good dancer, but just plays along for now.
“I dabble a little bit.”
Kelsai laughs and her eyes light up as she does.
“Ok, I’ll take the lead to start.”
Sitting down the boombox on a nearby table, Kelsai pushes play and anyone who can hear can definitely tell that what they are listening to is not David Bowie.
“My adoptive Mama was half latina and she used to tell me that one of the most distinctive musical tastes in that world is Santana.”
Chance just says nothing, and doesn’t even get up out of his chair either, instead opting to watch as Kelsai in a red skin tight crop top and spandex red pants to match starts dancing to Santana’s “Smooth”

Man, it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well, I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool

Kelsai starts to slowly slither toward Chance as this suddenly does not look anything like a professional wrestling tag team trying to do something together for the first time.

My muñequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason
The step in my groove

Kelsai comes up and is just inches away from Chance’s lips with her own.

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Because you're so smooth
And it's just like the ocean under the moon
Oh, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that can be so smooth, yeah
Give me your heart, make it real, or else forget about it

Kelsai winks at Chance and motions with her right index finger to get up and join her during the instrumental interlude. You can imagine her surprise however when Chance grabs Kelsai and places her down in his previous position in the chair. Then Chance takes off his white tank and starts a very seductive dance of his own while Kelsai can only watch slackjaw.

But I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave it'd be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name calling me out

Chance has turned things around now and as he dances getting closer to Kelsai all the time, Kelsai starts to blush.

Out from the barrio
You hear my rhythm on your radio
You feel the turning of the world, so soft and slow
It's turning you round and round

Chance after slowly sliding toward Kelsai is finally only inches or closer away from Kelsai now as she continues to not even be able to pick her jaw up.

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Because you're so smooth
Well, and it's just like the ocean under the moon
Well, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that can be so smooth, yeah
Give me your heart, make it real, or else forget about it

Suddenly, Kelsai looks like she is about to kiss Chance but instead quickly stands, gets the boombox and heads back to the car, saying behind her.
“I’m sorry, something suddenly came up! See you at the match!”
