“Making A Difference” by UBEM hits the PA system as those in attendance who know the theme from years in Mexican wrestling rise to their feet. Onto the stage walks the masked legend, Rey Anillo, his distinctive black, white and gold mask and outfit standing out, and with a cape around his shoulders. He spins on the stage before throwing the cape down and holding out his arms, encouraging the fans to cheer. He slowly turns on the stage as the fans clap along with the theme, and then charges to the ring. He leaps onto the apron and flips over the top rope, rolling back to his knees in the middle of the ring before holding out his arms the applause from the fans.

Biography:
In 1969, an American masked wrestler who was apparently enthralled with Lucha Libre showed up at a wrestling event in Mexico City. Rejected by the crowd as an American imposter as he tried to win over the fans, this masked wrestler quickly turned against the supporters, reducing himself to underhanded tactics to win. This was the day that Rey Anillo was born.

Utilising a large golden ring he’d slip onto his finger during matches, Anillo became the scourge of fans across Mexico in the 70s and 80s, always finding his way into situations they didn’t want to see him in, and often emerging victorious. However, as the 90s came around and a more risk taking, ‘hardcore’ style swept the country, the masked man changed up his game. He became known for his risk taking and striking, with some saying that it was as though the man in the mask had changed entirely, while others simply believed that ‘El Eterno’ had changed up his game to compete with the new generation of stars. This new style changed things for Anillo, and he grew into popularity was one of the more beloved acts in Mexico, even travelling as far as Japan to compete.

The legend of ‘El Eterno’ has never died down since. Always on the move, unpredictably showing up in new promotions from time to time, the legend of Rey Anillo has spread around the world. At times he’s been credited as a risk-taking daredevil. At other times he’s been seen as a brawling striker. One thing that every fan of Lucha Libre will confirm, however, is that Rey Anillo is seemingly ageless and will live forever amongst the fans who’ve grown up with him.

After he made a shocking appearance in the Taking Hold of the Flame Battle Royal, I thought I'd post up a bio for "The Ageless One". If you mention him at all, it's down to you to decide if you want to believe it's been one guy his whole career (as many do believe, since he's ageless) or if you want to believe there's been multiple people under the mask over the years.

Also, at this stage he's not yet (publicly) associated with Christy Matthews. I'll update if/when that happens.
