Donovan Kayl
#1
**Vital Statistics**

Full Name: Donovan Alexander Kayl

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 225 lbs.

Birthplace: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Education: Originally a high school dropout, Kayl got his G.E.D. before utilizing distance education to get a Bachelor of Professional Arts degree, with a major in Communication Studies, from Athabasca University.

Entrance Theme: "Tom Sawyer" by Rush

Wrestling Career: Began wrestling while underage, at the age of 16, in 1995, giving him a wrestling career spanning 22 years. He was a member of the now-defunct SWA from 2002 to 2010, and the now-defunct NEWA from 2010 until late-2011.

**Entrance**

"Tom Sawyer” by Rush starts to play as the spotlight focuses on the top of the ramp. Immediately, the crowd rise to their feet in a raucous ovation.

A modern day warrior

Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride

Stepping out to the top of the ramp is "The Cornerstone" Donovan Kayl. He steps to the side, facing out to the crowd. As he stands atop the ramp, he throws his arm out with each big note of the beginning musical portion. After turning his head to survey the entire crowd, he turns to face the front of the ramp, beginning to walk out towards the ring.

Though his mind is not for rent

Don't put him down as arrogant
He reserves the quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river

Kayl keeps his eyes focused on the ring ahead, and with a stoic gaze in his eyes, slaps the hands of a few fans at ringside.

The world is, the world is

Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide

Once he gets to the bottom of the ramp, Donovan pulls himself up onto the apron, walking over to the corner. He climbs up onto the second rope, looking out over the crowd, until the next lines hit...

What you say about his company

Is what you say about society
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift

Kayl throws his arms up for the roaring crowd, shouting out something that's just impossible to hear outside of the first couple of rows nearby. He hops the top rope into the ring, moving to the middle where he spins once, dropping to a knee and shooting his arms out. He drops his head as the crowd showers the ring with streamers, cascading down around him as he looks at the ring under his knee before raising his head upward slowly.

**Ring Attire**

En route to the ring, Kayl wears a red jacket with black patches, over his wrestling attire. Once he gets to the ring, he removes the jacket. His ring attire is red wrestling pants with "KAYL" written down the right leg in a deeper red, a wolf on the upper left leg (also in that deeper shade of red) and black studded wristbands. He wears generic black boots on his feet.

**Physical Features**

Kayl has short jet black hair and a black goatee/beard. His body is decently built, not a body-builder's body by any means, but certainly no slouch. His most imposing feature is his eyes, which are a piercing blue. He has a small scar over his left pectoral muscle from a previous surgery, a tattoo of a playing card with the DC comic character The Joker on his right bicep, and "MCMLXXIX" (1979, his birth year, in Roman numerals) tattooed down his left forearm.

**The Authorized History**

Donovan Kayl was born on the Friday the 13th in April, 1979. At a young age, it was discovered that he had a love of risk. This prompted his parents to keep him away from society, to whom he was deemed a threat, and stuck indoors most of his days, where he trained himself with weights and a punching bag to pass his time. He was home schooled so he would never have to leave his home. Then, at the tender age of 14, he ran away.

Four years went by between his running away and his resurfacing in 1997. No one quite knows where he was or what he was doing. Some believe that he was left like a regular hobo, wandering the hillside looking for a way of life; others believe his love of risks got him arrested, or even killed. Everyone was surprised when, after 4 long years of not seeing him, he showed up at the local arena with the independent wrestling circuit, wrestling under the name of “Twisted” Dirk Recktor. Insistent that his days as a troublesome child were behind him, his family allowed him to return home. But, that’s when the trouble began.

Everything that happened in his household ended up being his fault, even if he had absolutely nothing to do with them. Fed up again, Kayl left home in a matter of months, this time, vowing it would be for good. He returned to the independent wrestling circuit that he supposedly spent his first 4 years away in, this time, using his own name and identity… Donovan Kayl, the wrestler, was born. Immediately, fans took a liking to him. Heading into the year 2000, he was the most recognized face in the independent wrestling circuit, having a fan base all over the region. His life, he thought, couldn’t get any better. Then it did…

Donovan was approached after a New York show by a man who introduced himself as Jake Colossal. Donovan was told of an international body of wrestling that was always looking for the latest and greatest talents, and immediately signed up. When Kayl looked at the map of the world, he saw a large number of active rookie, territorial and regional federations he could join, and a national one which was off limits. Deciding his fate, he signed a preliminary wrestler contract to join Mid-South Wrestling, set in Memphis, Tennessee. Through the months in MSW, his fan base began to grow again, as he joined the stable Youth of a Nation, and immediately feuded with Alpha, a well established heel wrestler. But, nothing prepared the world for the next innovation…

In December, 2002, Donovan Kayl came out with Kayl’s Korner, a wrestler write-in show which was to feature Kayl giving his advice to various wrestlers and other MSW elite. This led to what many believe is the top feud of Kayl’s young career, when he went at it for several months with Narf, Destroyer of Bunnies. Then, in January, 2003, MSW turned into the second national federation and moved to Canada, becoming CWF. Also, that month Kayl was given a co-host, much to his chagrin, in the form of “The Beautiful Storm” Chloe Barnes. Time wore on, and he and Chloe grew to a brother-sister relationship… sometimes rocky, but generally good terms. And the show grew. The pair interviewed such guests as AFWA and Death By Me. As time continued, the two won the CWF Hardcore Tag Team titles, etching their names in the annals of CWF folklore. On top of that, Kayl won the CWF Rocky Mountain title from Scott “Carnage” Alexander. Then, in June of 2003, backstage at CWF Spring Fling, Kayl and Chloe were attacked by newcomers from North Star Wrestling, The Legion, made up by Daemon the Destroyer, El Diablo, The Maniacal Rage and The Kydd. The attack culminated with Kayl being abducted and left out in the middle of nowhere. He toiled on the farm in the middle of nowhere, which ended up being South Dakota, all the while befriending a young farm girl named Miranda. Eventually, it came time to leave the farm and return to CWF, and Kayl did in grand style, crashing through a triple cage during the main PPV of CWF, Uncivil War.

With Kayl's removal of Kydd from CWF, Kayl had a greater war to worry about: one with the founder of YOAN, The Walk. After returning to CWF, The Walk was bent on destroying what he "created"... Youth of a Nation. Kayl took exception to that and, in one classic encounter at CWF Instability, defeated The Walk to win ownership rights to the stable he now leads.

Things did not end there, however, as CWF began it's rollercoaster ride from the top. First, Kayl landed an exclusive interview with the always-talkative John Rodeo for Kayl's Korner. Then, at the CWF-hosted SWA Colossalcade, the biggest PPV of the year Kayl interviewed Jake Colossal, the man behind the SWA empire, before going out and becoming the first CWF Canadian Champion with a victory over Jason Angle. That single title reign brought Kayl to the forefront of a barrage of big names thrown his way: Killjoy Maximus, Afwa, Thunder Cat and Colonel Desade all fell to Kayl's trickery.

But fate was about to catch up with him. At CWF Retribution, Kayl fell victim to the Horsemen of the Abyss, perhaps the biggest non-YoaN stable in SWA history. In the month ahead, Kayl engaged in a feud with Micah King, the former SWA World Champion, and the two waged a war of words, catching the ear of Colonel Desade. When the three locked horns, Desade captured the title after Kayl was taken out of commission by Timothy Raine.

Raine and Kayl then staged a match at CWF Powder Keg the following month. The match, a brutal Canadian Street Fight, culminated in Raine turning his back on the Horsemen and, surprisingly enough, joining Youth of a Nation! The stable was possibly at it's strongest ever!

Then, CWF crumbled.

Kayl decided to start a little "feud" with an old friend, "Acid Rain" Chloe Celex. He publicly chastised her for breaking her word in returning to CWF, something she would never get the chance to do again with the closure. Kayl made his first official match appearance (with the exception of competing FOR Chloe while she was kidnapped) against Chloe at OWL Winter Warriors. However, the feud was a big rouse, resulting in Chloe turning her back on the OWL fans and rejoining Kayl, starting a second era of the Youthful Enterprise and preparing to bring OWL to it's knees! This goal was accomplished not only by running roughshod over OWL's most popular wrestler, Pinky Watts, but also by stirring the pot with its second-most hated faction, Pain and Pleasure. However, soon seeds of mistrust between Kayl and Chloe began to sow themselves, leading the longtime partners to go their seperate ways.

Kayl surfaced in Rising Sun Wrestling as a tag team partner to RSW legend, Hiero Takeuie. Off the bat, the pair defeated Derek B and Jamie Golden to capture the RSW Dragon Tag Team Titles. Kayl, however, had another target, a man whom had targetted him back in the CWF before the end, and a man who he blamed for part of its downfall: Micah King. These bulls locked horns, with Micah's pairing with Killjoy Maximus, Heaven's Tomb, defeating Kayl and Hiero for the Dragon Tag belts, until culminating inside a 20 foot deep pit for the first (and to this day, only) Pit Match, in which Kayl was ultimately successful. Kayl then joined forces with a former partner, Contour, as the tag team, The Next, and dissolved Youth of a Nation in favour of joining forces with Pain and Pleasure, reuniting with his old friend Chloe Barnes and her then-fiance, Danny Darko. However, this initial union was doomed to failure, as an internal rift between Contour and Danny Darko eventually ripped the group apart. Furthermore, Darko's romance with Chloe led to problems between him and Shadowcat, with whom Kayl sided in the conflict.

That problem left Kayl when Danny Darko went back to OWL, Shadowcat went to CPW and Chloe headed over to LSW. Kayl's tag team with Contour continued until he decided to take time off, and that is when Kayl really struck out on his own. With victories over some of the top RSW names, Kayl secured himself a spot in a triple threat iron man match against Derek B and Jamie Golden, with the winner getting a shot at the RSW Tsunawoharu Championship. While Golden won, Kayl put out enough of a great showing to secure a slot in the Glass House match, an annual bloodfest often cited among the most brutal of matches under the SWA banner. While the wrestlers stole the show (and the non-wrestlers involved in the match managed to not utterly embarrass themselves), it was Kayl who stole the show by hitting his signature maneuver, the OD, through the entire glass house structure on Alexis Clerk to pick up the 1-2-3.

After the glass house match, Kayl stepped back to the tradition of the winner being RSW Tsunawoharu Champion by having a makeshift copy of the belt made for him, which enraged the actual champion, Jamie Golden. What further enraged him was Kayl's "relationship" with his manager, Marigold. Sensing he was losing grip, a match was booked between Kayl and Golden to unify their belts. However, shortly before the match, a change was made. Golden was unable to make the show, and Derek Marks was put in his place. Unable to prepare for such a change, Marks was able to steal the victory and the title. However, Kayl then trained his entire focus on Marks and the title he felt robbed of, finally capturing it a month later.

For the next month, through uncertainty, Kayl "remained" as champion, although not defending the belt as he hadn't officially won it yet. At the end of the month, after making his decision to seek his fortunes elsewhere, Kayl would see himself get meticulously picked apart in a triple threat match against Jaxson Powers and Cassius King, and while putting up a valiant effort, Kayl was only able to hold on for so long.

However, that same WEEKEND, Kayl showed up at the AWA Birthday Show and attacked Bad Bad Heartworm and Seth Anarchy, having signed an AWA contract. And now, Kayl enters a new dawn in his career. He and Chloe have finally patched up their differences. He and Danny Darko are now a tag team shooting up the ranks. And he has more clarity and focus than ever before.

Or at least, he did for the time being. While Kayl and Darko were clawing their way to fame and prestige in the tag team division, with two seperate World Tag Title reigns, Kayl's personal life was thrown into turmoil when a tape came out revealing that Kayl had been involved in an affair.. or a one-night stand.. with Darko's wife and his old friend, Chloe Barnes-Ashmore, or Suicide Girl. While this threw a rift into the Big Shots tag team, it nearly drove Kayl to walk away from the business as a whole, fed up with being a role-model to youth when he himself was not role-model-worthy. However, after it was revealed that the woman in the tape was not Suicide Girl, but her tag team partner Shannon Bailey, Kayl faced another crisis of conscience: torn between intensifying feelings for the woman, coupled with his own fear of rejection. And this, in turn, was also coupled with attacks by a jealous Hoodlum, who was eager to step up and claim HIS territory. It took nearly three months for Kayl to finally spill his heart to Bailey, which inevitably blossomed into a full-blown romance between the two. During this time, Kayl and Hoodlum continued their war.

Then, Darko left for RSW (or so it was believed), and Bailey went to LSW, leaving Kayl alone. Truly alone for the first time in his career, Kayl is left in AWA searching for purpose, while maintaining a long-term romance with Bailey. Its the only way he would have it. Its the only way he could keep his sanity. Then, Darko swerved everyone by staying in AWA, but cracks in their once-supposedly seamless facade began to show, namely with Darko's words about his wife, Kayl's good friend Chloe "Suicide Girl" Barnes-Ashmore, have led some to believe that the Big Shots are not as cohesive a unit as once believed. Whether or not this is truly the case remains to be seen.

Soon thereafter, Darko and Kayl split ways and headed to LSW. There, they commenced a bitter rivalry, culminating in the disappearance of Chloe, which both men blame each other for. Eventually, Darko claimed to have found evidence to suggest that Kayl not only kidnapped Chloe, but also raped her. This sent Kayl over the edge and brought forth a side which he had never known existed.. a side which is more violent and brutal than any he had ever entertained before.

He brought forth Kayl the Black. However, deciding that the "dark, grungy" side wasn't work, he dropped the tail words, making himself simply "Kayl", as he also felt unable to return to the way he was prior to his "Black" incarnation.

After LSW closed, Kayl moved to RSW, where he enjoyed a one-month heel turn. Well, not so much ENJOYED it, as much as tolerated it. However, after that one month, some personal problems back home in Canada pulled him away from active competition, the first time this had happened to him since he joined the SWA in 2002. Now, he stands poised, ready to return, to reclaim his life, and the career which so many have tried to steal from him. Kayl joined forces with former World Champion Sludge Guts, forming the team ultimately known as Agony, a pairing that would inevitably end up winning the SWA World Tag Team Championships.

As time wore on, Kayl and Sludge Guts moved to HCW, where they rejoined with Chloe and Shannon to form the group known as Pay Per View. Throughout Kayl's tenure there, he captured every championship with the exception of two: The Heavyweight and Hostile City Tag. After Sludge Guts retired, Kayl briefly reformed his pairing with Devious Danny Darko, capturing a third World Tag Team Championship with that man. Kayl also entered into a feud with, of all people, HCW Promoter JD MacMorganburg III.

After MacMorganburg's ousting from the HCW office, Kayl was pleased to see that CWF had reopened its doors. Having been a driving force to see it return, Kayl felt it was only appropriate that he return to where his career began, his homeland. Dubbed "The Cornerstone" of CWF by fans and media alike, Kayl forged a path that would see him become one of the faces of CWF.

That is, of course, before the return of The Walk led the world Kayl knew to be shook to its foundation. With reality throwing his relationship with Shannon into turmoil, Kayl went out on a month-long bender full of booze and... well, just booze, actually. Upon returning, he signed with Leo Wanker to act as his representative and patched everything up with Shannon, Kayl was ready to ascend to levels he never before dreamed possible.

After defeating Devilish Davey Darko, H2O and his best friend Chloe Barnes in the Canadian Championship tournament, Kayl found himself on a collision course with Monique Ivy with the re-instituted belt hanging in the balance. However, he could not devote his full attention to this, as someone using Kayl's name had sent some incriminating information to Bronx Goldie, setting the SWA legend on his path. However, this would not slow Kayl's momentum as, mere days before CWF Instability, Kayl would defeat Neptunian Robot for the SWA World Heavyweight Title, the biggest win of his career for the most important belt in the world. He would lose it a few days later at SWA Iron Man, but would win the Canadian Championship.

However, Kayl would find the SWA Title again around his waist as he defeated Christopher Noteman, the man he lost it to in the first place, approximately 5 days later. Now, as a triple champion, Donovan Kayl is riding the single biggest wave in his career. His often-imitated stable, Pay Per View, has been targeted by rivals on all sides, an indicator of just how powerful the group has become. Everything seemed to be going Kayl's way.

Until, of course, the whole "Shannon Bailey kidnapping" thing. See, The Walk had invited some children into shows, having them pretend to be his children with "Shannon Walker-Marchetti-Whatever". Well, they played the part so well that they went off with Shannon Bailey. Kind of dumb, yes, but it happened. Shannon and Leo Wanker were charged with child abduction and ended up running to Texas. Fun.

In that time, Chloe Barnes had her miscarriage. Kayl and Lyman continued their push as the best tag team in the world, holding decisive victories over Out Of The Shadows. But the world would change in November when, out of the blue, Chloe would turn on her friends in favour of The Society. But through it all, Kayl was the one person to have never given up the idea that the Chloe who was acting against them was not the "true" Chloe Barnes. The pair had a classic one on one match at SWA Blind Faith for the World Championship, a match which Kayl took the World Title as secondary to his friendship. He fell short on winning his fifth World Title on that day.

Through that, Shannon Bailey also left Kayl. Something about him cheating (he never did) and giving up on saving her from the abduction charges (again, something he never did.. he was the one to get the charges dropped). For this, Leo Wanker was fired.

As time continued on, Kayl continued with his successful tag team with Lyman, completed a CWF Grand Slam (winning every title in the company).

At SWA Reign of Champions, Kayl was put in a precarious position. In order to utilize his rematch for the CWF Frozen Championship, he had to challenge both the new champion, Shannon, and her stablemate Jessica Heart. With Chloe Barnes as the referee. Though his back was against the wall, he won the match, defeating the two women by rolling up Heart. Following the match, he was assaulted, handcuffed to the ropes and busted open before Chloe went after her friends, saving Kayl and presumably returning to the side of good.

Throughout the next month, Kayl would rekindle his close friendship with Chloe, to the point where some would say they were closer than ever before. They would be proven right on one pivotal day...

May 19.

That is the day Donovan Kayl won his 5th World Championship. And that night, he spilled his heart... 7 years of feelings. From that moment on, longtime friends affirmed their love for one another and entered into a romantic relationship.

Kayl's evolution continued throughout the coming months, where he captured the World Championship on the sixth and seventh occasion. During this time, CWF was under attack by the EE Army, H2O and Marvel. Though, from every indication, CWF were clearly superior to this duo, they continued to press. Kayl lost the SWA World Championship to H2O at Boiling Point, following a victory over the same opponent and a rematch being declared immediately.

Kayl continued to soldier on as only he could, but in September announced that his legendary career would come to a close following SWA Colossalcade 2010. And, on September 21, the same day Kayl won his seventh World Championship, making him the most decorated wrestler in SWA history, Kayl married Chloe Barnes in a ceremony aboard a cruise ship.

**Personality**

The first thing noted about Donovan Kayl is his undeniable loyalty to those close to him. While much of his past had left him guarded, if you earn his trust, it is very difficult to break that trust. To those who have earned it, Kayl would lay his body on the line without question.

Kayl has a kind, respectful manner about him that has carried him through a 16+ year professional wrestling career. He believes respect is the foundation of the industry, and without it, we might as well be trained apes bludgeoning each other with

In addition to that, Donovan Kayl keeps a generally level head when it comes down to handling conflict. He loves watching his opposition talk themselves into the ground with nonsense, knowing how easy it is to debunk the majority of criticisms about him. However, this also poses a problem... when someone gets under Kayl's skin and breaks that level-headed nature, they face a man on a mission, a man who is truly pissed off. And for a man with the proven ability of Donovan Kayl, facing that is a definite dangerous proposition.

Speaking of abilities, Kayl has often been described as one of, if not THE, best technical wrestlers of all-time. He knows this, but is able to keep a level head about that as well, not allowing his ego to cloud over who he is because of what he can do.

The ring is the house. Donovan Kayl is the man of the house. The glue that can bond a family together.

The Cornerstone.

**Finishing Moves**

Point Blank
Kayl reaches over his opponent and lifts him for a suplex. Instead of dropping backwards, Kayl pushes his opponent off in front of him, causing them to land on their knees. In the brief moment of hesitation before the opponent can react, Kayl charges by, sometimes bouncing off the ropes for added speed and momentum, with a running knee to the temple, dropping the opponent to the mat out cold.

The REAL Attitude Adjustment
NOTE: Not to be confused with that OTHER company's version of the Attitude Adjustment...
With Kayl behind his opponent, he grabs on to their head and hits a quick, fluid reverse DDT. He then holds onto their head and rolls the opponent onto their stomach, straddling over their back as he wrenches up in a Dragon Sleeper.

NOTE: This character is currently inactive, but will be featured in various characters' stories. Should I activate him... well... I know how to make the appropriate move (and I'm sure Olek will remind me to create an entrance).

NOTE 2: This is the "original" Donovan Kayl spoken of in lore/promos from Simon Lyman and Kayl TV. NOT to be confused with Devon Kayl, who once used his cousin's name to get himself over.
