OOC: Xander Valentine and Billy Heaven Jr. were used with permission from their handlers, and the scene where they're present is actually what's referenced a bit in the second Billy RP that just got posted. Also, potential trigger warnings for a brief mention of child abuse (if you've followed Amelia's part of the LITD story thus far, you probably already have an idea of some of what her parents have done to her) and Billy Heaven Jr. Yeah... with approval, he's kind of his own trigger warning a bit in this, lol
------------------------------
Amelia Blythe had always known she was different... different enough that she knew it clashed with everything her parents had planned for her.
She remembered that when she was a child, her mother had asked her countless times how she pictured her dream wedding going, clearly having every intention to bankroll the most extravagant and memorable wedding ceremony ever designed if it meant her daughter's future was a secure one that benefited their family. The problem was that child Amelia just didn't see the appeal in getting married, especially when all she had to go off of was how lifeless Ophelia and Aleister's marriage looked, feeling more like a business partnership than a life partnership as she grew older. Not to mention, picturing herself married to anyone was a chore when she were trained relentlessly to be the perfect heir to the wrestling empire her parents would be leaving to her and her older siblings.
Eventually, Amelia reached a point where her ideal wedding ceremony actually began to form in her mind. She could see it now: a grand event with an atmosphere straight out of her favorite fantasy novels, with the feeling of magic in the air and what felt like an entire country's worth of people having come out to celebrate her tying the knot.
What rattled Amelia's reality, however, was that every time this dream wedding played out in her head, she would never see herself standing across from a man before the wedding officiant, but a
woman. It would take her many more years before she fully understood why this was the case, but the thing that always stuck with her was that the thought of ever being married to a man, or even seeing one in any sort of romantic light, made her sick to her stomach... something she never felt when she pictured another girl standing at that altar with her.
She had made the mistake of mentioning this to her parents one time... their response was for Aleister to beat her with a belt while Ophelia screamed at her to get those sinful thoughts out of her head immediately. From that day on, they seemed to have doubled-down on their efforts to try and hook Amelia up with any good-looking son from one of their business or wrestling associates at any of their social gatherings, which Amelia admittedly found odd in hindsight now that she knew as an adult she had already been promised via marriage contract to be married off to the heir of Caleb White.
She had her suspicions as to why her parents did this, but they were no longer of any concern to her. After all, Aleister and Ophelia were now rotting away in a prison cell, where they belonged after a lifetime of manipulation and abuse. That, she hoped, left no lingering issues to stand in the way of her marrying the woman who had not only captured her heart, but proved that she was a literal ball of light that had led her out of the darkness she thought she was destined to drown in.
These were the thoughts running through her head as she stood before the full-length tri-fold mirror, a pair of tailors maneuvering around her to make sure everything fit just right. She and Luz had finally locked down their plans of being able to have their wedding on Día de los Muertos, taking place at the chapel near the cemetery where Luz's father had been laid to rest, and one thing they'd agreed upon as soon as they had locked that in was going all-out with theming the wedding around the Day of the Dead. Keeping with tradition, they agreed not to peek at one another's wedding outfits until they were standing together at the altar, and since Amelia knew her wife-to-be would go all out with her attire, she was hoping to match that energy as best as she could.
She heard a low whistle of appreciation as she glanced back to where Emily and Ivy stood, having agreed to accompany her for this since they agreed Luz was banned from doing so for the sake of tradition. Her sister had been the one who whistled as she stared at Amelia with a look of awe, almost as if the idea of Amelia looking the way she did had never crossed her mind before.
“You look amazing, Amelia,” she spoke breathlessly. “The lacing in the back looks really cute on you, too.”
“It's beautiful Ames,” Ivy nodded. “You're beautiful... pretty sure Luz is going to drop dead when she sees you walking down the aisle in this dress.”
“I hope not literally,” Amelia blushed from the praise from the two women she knew for sure were going to be in her side of the bridal party. “I want to be able to spend the rest of my life with her, after all, and I'd hate for her to drop dead on a day devoted to honoring their memory and celebrating life and love itself.”
“Chill Amelia,” Ivy laughed. “I'd be worried if you and Luz both died because your brains literally can't process how good you both look.”
“What's she up to today, anyways?” Emily asked.
“I'm pretty sure she's meeting up with her Trios partners to train together,” Amelia started to shrug, only to stop herself when she met the glare of one of the tailors who was working on the neckline of her dress right now. She gave a sheepish smile to the woman before letting her focus back on her work. “She wanted to get one last round of training in with them before this week's Breakdown.”
“And how do you feel about that?” Emily probed, and while Amelia wanted to feel annoyed by the questioning, she knew her sister was just trying to look out for her.
“I'm not worried, if that's what you're implying,” Amelia sighed. “Luz and I have been training together ever since we first joined forces to end yours and Ed's tag team reign of terror all those years ago, and we know we'll always be able to go right back to it at any point. Trios, however... we're both in this thing, on different teams, and we're both in agreement to put our best feet forward with the teams we were drawn into so we can keep trying to show the SCW universe we're just as capable without one another as we are with each other.”
As Ivy and Emily glanced at one another, Amelia couldn't help but take a deep breath. She knew Trios was going to be an interesting challenge for sure, and not just because Luz was on the opposite side of the bracket from her. Despite regaining their World Tag Team Titles, the path to Apocalypse thus far had been focused primarily on their efforts to find their footing in singles action, and so far they hadn't been too successful. She had fallen to Xander Valentine two weeks ago, and Luz had been beaten by Polly Pingotti last week. Sure, Trios wasn't exactly 'singles action' by any means, but it was an opportunity for the both of them to step up and remind the world of what they were capable of beyond just teaming with one another, and right now, that was all the motivation they needed to push themselves towards one of those coveted Trios contracts... even if that meant having to face one another to get one.
She knew her own Trios team had massive potential... she just wished they were altogether as cohesive as Luz's seemed to be.
“So...” Ivy carefully started, “have you gotten the chance to train with your own partners?”
“I've trained once or twice with Xander between last Breakdown and now,” Amelia stated as she kept her eyes locked on her reflection in the mirror, knowing that the tailors she'd hired to custom-make this wedding dress were starting to put the finishing touches on it and she didn't want to risk any sudden moves that would screw anything up. “We tried to train together with that Billy Heaven Jr. guy at least once... keyword:
tried.”
“Aw, come up,” Emily laughed. “He couldn't have been that bad, could he?”
“Well...” Amelia began as she thought back to a few days ago, when the three of them had tried to meet up to train together and form a gameplan for the tournament, knowing full well that being on the same page was going to be crucial to their run.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting a chance to train with THE Xander Valentine had felt like a dream come true.
As the two of them worked together, Amelia found herself locked-in on everything he had to share, his veteran wisdom being a perfect compliment to the training techniques that had been an entirely new experience from anything she had ever done before, before or after Luz came into her life. She had picked up on the hints that the SCW legend clearly wasn't the kind of person who liked working together with others unless he absolutely had to, despite being a former Trios winner in his own right, but there was enough of a respect that seemed to have been forged between them after their match two weeks ago that he was willing to share his wisdom if she was willing to put in the work to utilize it.
It hadn't taken Xander long to see firsthand that Amelia Blythe was a woman who never gave anything less than 200% when it came to the wrestling business in any aspect, and his respect for her only grew.
He was currently in the middle of working with her on one specific approach: preparing her to go hold for hold with the World Champion. Amelia's parents may have tried to raise and train her to be the perfect wrestling machine, but Amelia had never been been so brainwashed by them that she would confidently repeat their claims about her being able to easily outwrestle anyone no matter who they were, and her time in SCW had shown her firsthand that there existed grapplers in the world who could overcome her technique and training through a combination of their own along with being more experienced, something Josh Hudson possessed in spades. Xander had a long history with Hudson and knew full well what he was capable of, and the likelihood that Amelia would have to lock up with him in their first round match meant that he wanted to be sure she knew what to prepare herself for, even if it was mostly driven by wanting to make sure she could hold her own in that scenario so their team didn't get eliminated.
“Ayo, what's good, Trios amigos?”
Xander had been slowly walking Amelia through his familiarity with Josh's Hudson Stretch submission when that annoying voice greeted their ears. They separated from the position they'd been in and rose to their feet, both looking surprised and a little annoyed at the sight of Billy Heaven Jr. strutting up to them like he owned the place, another man right behind who clearly looked intimidated, likely because of Xander's imposing presence. What stood out the most in Amelia's mind at that moment was that this other man looked like he was dressed to work out, but Billy had a pair of sunglasses on and was dressed more in what could best be loosely described as business-casual perhaps. That said, he certainly didn't seem to have any issues with throwing himself up against them, snapping a group selfie and then quickly getting it up on his Instagram.
“You're late,” Amelia huffed as Xander shoved Billy off of him, their partner almost falling to the floor from the force used.
“I'm on time as far as I'm concerned,” Billy shrugged. “We're working on Billy Heaven Jr. time up in this joint.”
“Whatever,” Xander growled, clearly on his last nerves already with this guy and Billy hadn't even been here two minutes yet. “Just get changed so you can-”
“Yeah, no, not today,” Billy dismissed, his attention still on his phone. “It's the Sabbath. You can't expect me to train on the Sabbath, it's not kosher. So what we're gonna do is my shabbos goy here,” Billy motioned to the other man, who looked less and less like he wanted to be here by the second, “is going to do all the training for me today and it'll transfer over to me in the aggregate.”
Amelia just stared blankly at Billy, pretty sure in her mind that it wasn't the Sabbath today.
Xander, on the other hand, already looked about ready to murder this kid. “...what.”
“You know, osmosis and shit,” Billy claimed, clearly ignoring the danger he was in as he tried to shove his shabbos goy over to the pair. “You got this Harold! And then I'll have it for Breakdown and we'll all have this shit in the bag!”
“I'm not in the mood for this,” Xander warned, his voice low and threatening as he took a step past Harold and towards Billy, but Amelia quickly stepped in front of him.
“Hang on,” she pleaded, holding her hands up as if it would help stop Xander's advance. “Look, I know we can both agree he's not the ideal partner we would've wanted for this, but that doesn't mean we can't at least try to make this wo-”
Amelia was cut off as a loud SMACK! echoed throughout the gym, her eyes going as wide as dinner plates. She slowly turned her head, glancing down towards her rear end before her gaze rose to meet Billy, who was grinning like a fool even as her eyes began to narrow dangerously.
“Damn Am, you've got a nice firm ass!” Billy praised, or at least he probably thought that was what he was doing. “How's about after we're done with all this training, you and I go out and-”
“First of all,” Amelia spat, her tone growing cold enough that even Xander looked surprised for a moment. “I'm a lesbian, so I'll never be interested in whatever you think you have to offer. And second, even if that wasn't the case, I'm getting married to my partner in a few weeks. Maybe you've heard of her? La Pequeña Luz? We're currently holding tag team gold together?”
“Aw shit, congrats!” Billy kept grinning. “So when's the honeymoon? I wouldn't mind being the kosher cream in the middle of a Brit and Latina sandwich, if you know what I mean!”
Amelia could feel the veins in her forehead throbbing, finding it near impossible to remember what she and Luz had worked on in the past to help her overcome the trust issues her parents had ingrained deeply into her psyche. She slowly glanced up at Xander, the two of them locking eyes in silent conversation before Amelia wordlessly stepped aside, no longer willing to play nice.
Billy never saw the hook coming that shattered his sunglasses and left his right eye blackened for his troubles.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Holy shit,” Ivy couldn't help but say as Amelia finished recounting the training mishap. The work on her wedding dress had finished up while she was sharing, and she had since changed back into more casual attire as the dress was neatly packaged up and paid for.
If nothing else, Amelia's love for the dress that she knew was going to take Luz's breath away when she walked down the aisle helped wash some of the awful taste out of her mouth at remembering Billy's antics on that day.
“Who does this creep think he is?” Emily fumed, looking about ready to hunt Billy down herself and do her sisterly duty of twisting this guy into a human pretzel.
“Unfortunately, one of my Trios partners, whether I like it or not,” Amelia sighed as the trio were making their way back to the hotel where they were all staying at here in Boise for this week's Breakdown. “I just hope he gets his act together come bell time. Blake, Katie and Josh are going to be a daunting first round task as it is, and I know I would love to be able to prove I'm finally getting my act together so everyone can see I'm just as dangerous without Luz as I am teaming with her.”
“If you don't mind me asking,” Ivy asked, her voice steeped in curiosity, “what's with this sudden desire the two of you have to prove your worth as singles stars? Not that I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I guess it seems a little odd to me that you two just became tag champions again and are getting married in a little over a month, and yet being a tag team seems like it's suddenly on the back burner.”
“It's not that,” Amelia responded, her tone firm. “It's just... well... it's not our fault Luz and I have been booked in singles matches lately. We've talked about it, and... we know we're not going to be World Tag Team Champions forever, and as much as we love working together and everything that we've done for SCW's tag team division, we both know we're just as capable of making names for ourselves solo while still pushing each other to greater and greater heights in a different way. We've had moments where we've proven what we can do outside of being a team together... maybe this is CHBK's way of testing how capable we really are when the day comes where we finally step back and see how well the division does without us for a bit.”
Ivy and Emily nodded at that, seeing the logic. Emily especially, knowing full well how their parents had demanded singles greatness out of Amelia because tag team domination was supposed to be her and Edward's job. She'd watched Amelia became Television Champion, seen her fight her way to the finals of a tournament meant to crown a new United States Champion... perhaps more importantly, she knew just how hard her sister has always been on herself, which was probably the biggest reason why she was so happy when she learned Amelia and Luz had gotten together, knowing that her sister deserved a chance at happiness with someone who actually saw the real her, loved her for it and encouraged her to stop hiding it.
“I'll go ahead and take this, if that's alright Amelia,” Ivy suddenly said as she took the package containing the wedding dress from the bride-to-be once they finally entered the front lobby of the hotel. “I know Luz's mom is hiding her wedding outfit, so I'm going to hide yours with my stuff to make sure you guys don't break tradition.”
“I can hide it!” Emily pouted. “I am her sister, after all.”
“Yeah, but as much as I know you guys understand how important this is, I don't fully trust you and especially not Ed to set up some kind of prank with it,” Amelia narrowed her eyes, and while Emily looked offended she knew she didn't have as much of an argument. The temptation would always be there to prank her baby sister, and even if she resisted the urge, her twin barely had any self-control unless he knew a situation was dire.
“Excuse me, Amelia Blythe?”
All three women suddenly turned their attention to the man at the front desk, who was holding out what looked like an envelope. Amelia raised an eyebrow as she saw her name written on it, the handwriting looking familiar.
“Someone dropped this off for you, didn't say who they were or what it was but insisted it was important we gave it to you,” the man explained.
Amelia took the envelope from him and carefully opened it, letting out a heavy breath at the message that greeted her.
“'Call off your wedding. Your soul can still be saved,'” Amelia read out loud, her hands gripping the paper tightly.
“Another cryptic letter?” Ivy asked, having heard about the first one the couple had gotten in the mail before the start of the new SCW season.
“I don't know who thinks this is cute,” Amelia growled as she crumpled the letter up and tossed it into the nearest trash bin, “but it's getting really old really fast.”
With that, Amelia quickly started heading up to her and Luz's room, leaving Ivy and Emily exchanging looks of concern and irritation that their loved ones just couldn't be left alone to enjoy the happiest day of their lives in peace.
